Job Description

George Fox Universitys Athletic Department is seeking a motivated leader to join their team as the Esports Assistant Coach.


About the Job:

The Assistant Esports Coach serves to develop Christ-centered student-athletes through competitive excellence personal growth and team leadership within the esports program. This position provides direct coaching for the League of Legends team supports evening operations in the esports arena manages live streaming of competitions and assists with technical needs-all while fostering a culture of integrity service and community that aligns with the mission of the athletic department and the broader university.


Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading the coaching and strategic development for the League of Legends team during practices and competitions.
  • Supervising and facilitating esports arena operations and activities two evenings per week with flexibility to support additional evenings as needed.
  • Managing and overseeing the live streaming of esports matches ensuring high-quality broadcasts.
  • Coordinating with IT staff to ensure all esports-related hardware and software are fully operational up-to-date and optimized for performance including during live broadcasts and team practices.
    • Working closely with IT to maintain and update gaming PCs peripherals and specialized esports equipment.
    • Ensuring streaming and broadcasting hardware/software (e.g. capture cards OBS audio mixers) are correctly configured and functioning.
    • Performing regular system checks to verify readiness before matches and events.
    • Real time troubleshooting of technical issues to minimize disruption during live gameplay or broadcasts.
    • Assisting with network stability and performance collaborating with IT to resolve connectivity or latency problems.
    • Helping to implement preventative maintenance and upgrade schedules for both hardware and software.
    • Maintaining an inventory of esports equipment and coordinating with IT on replacements or enhancements.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as assigned to support the growth and success of the esports program.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others including employees students and the public in a spirit of teamwork respect and customer service.
  • By actions words and lifestyle be a Christian role model to students whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect appreciation and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A day in the life of this position:

The Esports Assistant Coach position is a highly diverse role which varies day-to-day in-season and out-of-season. The Assistant Coach must model a life of learning integrity and service around the person and work of Jesus Christ. Student-athletes are our primary focus and therefore this position requires an immense amount of availability to help coach educate and mentor. The Esports Assistant Coach must be willing and able to assist the Head Coach with day-to-day tasks while being available to connect with student athletes.

Preference Will be Given to Those Who Have the Following Attributes:

  • A Masters Degree.
  • Coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate level.
  • Experience working in a small college or university setting and/or collegiate athletics.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certifications.

Job information:

  • Hours Per Week: 25 hours
    • This position requires irregular office hours including after-hours and weekend work to attend competitions practices etc.
  • Primary Work Location: Newberg Campus
    • Local and national travel is required.
  • Working Conditions: Physical requirements could include lifting more than 25 pounds and performing any activities such as balancing bending/stooping climbing stairs crawling crouching climbing ladders kneeling repetitive motion or reaching above shoulder level.
