POSITION SUMMARY Public Safety Officer III-IV EMT IA / Paramedic is a highly skilled position entailing firefighting rescue medical response and any other related emergency services needed for the residents visitors and employees of Big Canoe. This position requires rapid efficient and safe performance of various duties under emergency conditions frequently involving considerable hazard. The Public Safety Officer IV additional certification as a EMT IA / Paramedic enables the employee to provide Advance Life Support medical care to sick or injured patients. The position also entails maintenance duties of department apparatus equipment and facilities. Full time position. - Perform daily inspection of department vehicles and note any problems on the vehicle inspection form.
- Patrol all areas inside Big Canoe looking for any infractions of the rules and regulations.
- Enforce all traffic and parking rules including issuing citations to anyone in violation of these rules.
- Report any problems with roads buildings etc. to the proper departments.
- Complete vehicle accident reports for all motor vehicle accidents.
- Provide traffic control for P.O.A. functions with large gatherings.
- Keep patrol cars and emergency vehicles clean and refueled.
- Maintain a professional personal appearance and conduct themselves in a friendly professional manner.
- Must maintain the required training to keep Georgia Firefighter State certification.
- Must be familiar with all emergency equipment including but not limited to all apparatus and equipment kept on them.
- Must remain Certified as an EMT IA / Paramedic with the State of Georgia Office of EMS and Trauma.
- Paramedics must hold and maintain certification in (ACLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
- Must maintain good physical fitness and successfully complete the departments adopted physical agility test annually.
- Perform checks on all emergency vehicles and report any problems to the Security and Fire Chief.
- Responsible for all emergency vehicles and stations on their shift.
- Maintain a professional personal appearance and conduct themselves in a friendly professional manner.
- Perform fire and life safety inspections of all commercial buildings within Big Canoe and ensure minimum Georgia State requirements are maintained.
- Perform fire education programs for the public.
- All other duties as assigned by Lieutenant or Public Safety Director / Fire Chief.
- Shall maintain Georgia State Firefighter Certification in accordance with GFSTC.
- Shall maintain the minimum an Emergency Medical Technician /Paramedic Certification preferred.
- Shall ensure daily checks of all fire apparatus and emergency response vehicles are completed and note any problems on the vehicle check form and forward any discrepancies to the Fire Chief for review.
- Shall maintain a professional personal appearance and conduct themselves in a friendly professional manner.
- Shall be responsible for all emergency vehicles and station inspections daily on their shift.
- Shall maintain good physical fitness.
- Shall perform fire education programs for the public.
- Shall perform fire and life safety inspections of all commercial buildings within Big Canoe and ensure minimum Georgia State requirements are maintained.
- Shall perform all other duties as assigned by the Public Safety Security and Public Safety Director / Fire Chief.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS - Shall possess and maintain a clean motor vehicle record and be at least 19 years of age to operate a motor vehicle inside Big Canoe.
- Shall possess a Non-Commercial Class B or Class F drivers license.
- Shall complete all requirements to meet Georgia State Certified Firefighter certification that include but are not limited to the following:
- Be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination.
- Possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Not have been convicted of a felony within 10 years of the date of employment or appointment.
- Have a good moral character as determined by an investigation under the procedure approved by the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council
- Successfully complete the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Councils approved physical agility test
- Shall complete the annual re-certification requirements for State Certified Firefighter
- Must complete state approved 24 hours of continuing education.
- Shall complete all required ISO recommended training (240 hours annually).
- shall be certified to a minimum of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) IA/ Paramedic preferred.
