This Policy Consultant position provides the full scope of HR for the Department of Public Safety. The individual in this position will provide management consultation serve as the exempt position coordinator manage special projects andcritical task as well as gather and analyze HR metrics and data. Assignments may cross divisions or sections involve confidential situations and partner with department leaders and key stakeholders to develop and/or deliver HR solutions in line with the business needs of the department..

Job duties of this position include:
  • Assessing new OSHR and Federal laws / policies / guidelines and their impact on DPS operations and providing feedback and recommendations
  • Researching new policy requests and collaborating with the Office of Policy and Strategic Planning on developing and recommending new and existing department and division-level HR policies
  • Managing the departments designation of employees to Exempt positions including Exempt Managerial Exempt Policy-Making Confidential Assistants Confidential Secretaries Chief Deputy or Chief Administrative Assistant positions and processes including serving as a HR resource to these roles
  • Completing monthly reporting coordinating salary action requests and drafting exempt notifications and offer letters on behalf of department exempt positions
  • Maintaining electronic and paper files for all DPS exempt positions
  • Providing expertise and leadership on a broad and comprehensive range of HR activities including compensation classification employment transactions policy and compliance
  • Responding to department executive needs actions and requests including providing accessibility to executive leadership in the absence of the HR Director and Deputy Director
  • Maintaining daily communication with key requestors for status updates and approvals
  • Providing executive support on HR subjects such as sensitive or confidential HR needs data research application of conflicting policies and questions related to exempt designations or exempt positions
This position requires significant skill in establishing building and maintaining relationships with all levels of stakeholders.

About the Human Resources Office:
The Human Resources (HR) Office provides comprehensive personnel services to all divisions / units throughout the department. Major services include policy administration organizational development and performance training employee relations employee benefits salary administration classification / compensation recruitment / selection and employee records management.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies
