The Enterprise Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for establishing a scaled efficient and resilient operating model that enables growth drives productivity and enhances risk management and operational resiliency.
This Specialist Business Management role within the Enterprise COOs Chief of Staffs office supports this remit through strategy development and articulation; oversight of resource allocation key initiatives and general financial and operational performance; and working with the Enterprise COO leadership team to identify communicate and implement the strategic roadmap. Works closely with the business along with the functional partners across the firm to achieve these goals..
Leads the development and communication of the business unit strategy and performance internally and externally. Actively participate and engage with the immediate leadership team and wider business in support of strategic decision making and the delivery of strategic projects.
Job Description / Major Duties :
1. Management of key business governance and oversight routines for the Enterprise COO organization including the Investment Council Leadership meetings and Operating Reviews
a. Design and implement the governance framework for the business
b. Own agendas and work closely with executives / other presenters to prepare for meetings to maximize engagement
c. Identify opportunities to connect the dots on initiatives or external trends / changes that will impact various teams
d. Drive follow-up on action items to ensure successful closure
2. Responsible for design delivery & management of regular reporting to the Enterprise COO that provides insights into the organizations performance against strategic priorities.
3. Drive a reporting strategy that effectively communicates Enterprise COO strategic priorities and performance internally including to the CEO & the Board and externally to regulators and others as required.
4. Business Strategy and Prioritization
a. Act as a trusted advisor to the Enterprise COO
b. Partner with the management team to develop priorities that enable delivery of the overall strategy for the business
c. Drive change through prioritization and alignment of resources to strategic priorities
d. Support and/or lead periodic initiatives that help the business achieve strategic objectives
4. Business Performance and Planning
a. Lead annual business budget processes (capital and expense) ensuring resource plans and allocations are appropriately aligned to business priorities
b. Monitor actual performance and developments in the operating environment to help develop plans to address any risks and/or opportunities identified
c. Oversee portfolio of investment / productivity initiatives across the end-to-end business to monitor progress toward achieving multi-year targets
c. Develop ad-hoc analytics to help the business better understand and manage its costs risks capital usage profitability opportunities etc.
5. Regulation Risk and Controls
a. Ensure governance routines are designed and operating effectively to ensure adequate executive oversight of Enterprise COO activities
b. Understand the impact of new regulations on the business and how that may impact the business strategy
c. Respond to requests from Regulators as required.
6. Ad Hoc / General Business Management Support.
Knowledge : Seasoned multi-disciplinary expert with extensive technical and / or business knowledge and functional expertise
Excellent communication skills together with influencing and relationship-building are important attributes for the role. The ability to maintain confidentiality is essential
Financial management experience including preparation of budgets and monitoring expenses for large functions
Able to collaborate across lines of businesses and work with central/corporate organizations building a strong network
Developing and translating initiatives into a presentation. Must be able to present strategy and performance in internal and external presentations.
Drive trends and provide new conclusions or perspectives on new findings.
Working collaboratively with business partners: HR Compliance and Finance in order to support day to day business activities.
Expert Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel skills
Experience : Significant experience within Financial Services.
Prior experience of producing MI for senior stakeholders alongside resource and budget management.
A university/college degree or equivalent and/or relevant proven work experience is required
Ability to operate autonomously with an ability to face off to the executive management team demonstrates a willingness to take initiative and work independently a problem solver
Demonstrated ability to influence business leaders and partner well particularly as part of a global business
Ability to understand and grow the strategic business vision; focus on improving the bottom line
Sound judgment professional maturity and personal integrity strong work ethic proactive and results-oriented outlook possess courage to ask tough questions and challenge the status quo

Salary Range:
$114700 - 194900 USDSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension) health and welfare benefits (medical dental vision spending accounts and disability) paid time off parental and caregiver leave life & accident insurance and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
