Job Description

The Peace River School Division is seeking applications for a full-time (1.00 f.t.e.) Maintenance Repairman at its Central Operations Building Grimshaw Alberta. The Maintenance Repairman works under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for general upkeep and repair of school facilities grounds and structures. This position is intended for a skilled handyperson who can complete a wide range of tasks but does not have journeyman trade certification.

This position will remain open until suitable candidate is secured. The Peace River School Division thanks you for your interest in working with our division - only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repair work in school facilities.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles tools and equipment used for facility and grounds maintenance.
  • Carry out seasonal groundskeeping tasks such as lawn care snow removal tree trimming and landscaping.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve various building issues (e.g. doors windows locks lighting toilets sinks ceiling tiles).
  • Respond to maintenance service requests and complete assigned repairs promptly and professionally.
  • Assist certified tradespeople as required without assuming journeyman-level duties.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of division-owned vehicles tools and equipment.
  • Perform general labour tasks including site clean-up transporting supplies and organizing inventory.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Practical knowledge of general building maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Proficiency with common hand and power tools.
  • Ability to follow work orders and/or verbal instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good attention to detail time management and organizational skills.
  • Physically able to perform manual labour including lifting climbing and working in varied environments.

This is a union position under the collective agreement between the CUPE Local 4839 and the Peace River School Division.

Rate of Pay:

$27.26 to $37.02 per hour(dependent on years of experience in accordance with the collective agreement between the CUPE Local 4839 and the Peace River School Division ).

The following benefits are available to CUPE Support Staff Association employees when they have successfully completed the probationary period and are working at a 0.50 FTE or greater in accordance with the collective agreement between the CUPE Local 4839 and the Peace River School Division.
