The COMPASS High School program delivers services to high school students to accomplish the following goals:
Provide a safe engaging and supportive environment with strong adult-student relationships as well as peer bonding and support
Provide a culture of learning skill-building and high expectations
Foster confidence resilience and leadership
Encourage exploration of college and career options
Facilitate access to key services and resources including mental health services
The program providesstudents with 1) counseling services to help develop and achieve yearly academic and personal goals 2) case management and advocacy services to ensure they receive needed support in and out of school and 3) group discussion and project activities with Program Manager is responsible forensuring all services are delivered effectively and to work collaboratively with other PWC staff and school leadership to integrate the program into the school.
Responsibilities:
Oversee all program activities
Design lesson plans for group activities and discussion groups model and oversee facilitation of activities and groups
Cultivate and forge positive relationships with students school staff parents PWC staff and other key constituents in the community
Organize special and culminating events including showcases that highlight student achievement
Supervise and develop a team of 3 Counselor Advocates (Social Work interns)
Responsible for recruitment of program participants
Qualifications:
New York State LMSW plus SIFI certification required
Experience managing after-school programs at least two years of program supervisory experience (including supervising staff who lead groups of youth)
At least 3 years experience within the past 5 years providing services to high school age youth and working with school personnel
Knowledgeable of NYC DOE promotion and graduation requirements and credit requirements for college entry
Strong leader and team-builder
Resolve conflicts and negotiate solutions and maintain effective working relationships with program staff and school partners
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Interest in and comfort with working with data to inform practice
Work in fast-paced environment flexible and can-do attitude
Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
Demonstrate cultural competency as well as appreciation and sensitivity to diversity of students and families
Must be able to pass criminal background check and clearance by New York City agencies
Hours:
Full-time occasional weeknight and Saturday hours
Year-round position (summer location and duties will vary)
Salary and Benefits: Salary range is $65000 to $70000.
