The Department of Medicine at the University of Otago Christchurch has a mission to improve the lives of people in New Zealand through health education and research. The Department hosts some of the most productive researchers in New Zealand with strengths in heart health brain research and musculoskeletal medicine.
We house over 100 academic researchers many of whom have clinical roles in the Canterbury District Health Board. The Department is physically housed in Christchurch Hospital and has close links to other departments in the University (including Pathology & Biomedical Science) and hospital Departments (including Cardiology and the Emergency Department) and throughout the Christchurch and regional hospital campuses.
The role/Te mahi
This is a research-funded position that involves the clinical and administrative requirements for the inaugural NZ/ Singapore Artificial Intelligence Research Grant.
The Project Manager will provide strategic advice tactical planning and operational oversight and overview of the NZ portfolio of projects by ensuring; each projects implementation plan is in place roles and responsibilities within each project are clearly defined and assigned a communication strategy/plan is in place financial oversight and accountability is reported relevant processes and policies are in place to support the projects align with the UO ethics and funder requirements. There will also be an oversight role in assisting the Singapore team complete their objectives. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that the goals of the portfolio of projects are achieved.
Other key tasks and duties include:
Organise and facilitate research dissemination including media interviews and academic or public meetings.
Support future grant writing.
Establish and maintain an effective medium for governing the project ensuring that all stakeholders have an appropriate level of input on project decision making.
Convene project meetings to monitor progress on milestones and resources and refinement of the project plan over time.
Appropriately engage with the Research and Enterprise Office to support required reporting requirements.
Support data analysis and identify opportunities for new initiatives to respond to data insights.
Provide regular progress reports as agreed to the Director Research Team and Department.
Facilitate software access to Health NZ software and health NZ data.

You will be a clear and effective communicator with strong influence and demonstrated negotiation skills. You will also be an organized individual with strong time management skills.
We are also looking for candidates with:
Tertiary level or relevant post-Graduate degree in appropriate field.
Minimum of 3 years experience in academic or non-academic health-related project management.
A good understanding of financial and budget management.
Demonstrated in-depth experience in strategic and operational planning and implementation.
High-level leadership and relationship building skills and experience.
A demonstrated high level of discretion tact diplomacy and proven ability to manage highly sensitive or confidential information.

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week) fixed term position (34-month duration) based in tautahi Christchurch.
The appointment range for this role is $80749 to $85649 (Top of band $100776).
