Job Description
Kinsale Insurance is hiring an Associate Data Engineer to join our Technology team. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about technology and working on innovative solutions that drive quality and efficiency. This person will be influential in collaborating with our Data Engineers Data Architects Data Analysts and Data Ops Manager in developing testing deploying and owning Data focused work. The candidate should have a strong conceptual understanding of data analytics API development an introductory understanding of Data Governance.
A successful candidate demonstrates a consistently positive attitude a strong desire to continuously learn and grow and the humility to acknowledge mistakes and learn from them.
Responsibilities
Develop design construct test and maintain efficient and scalable database pipelines that align with business requirements.
Conduct ad-hoc data extraction using tools like PGAdmin SQLDeveloper PL/SQL etc.
Conduct data analysis and summarization
Understand how database security backup and recovery and troubleshooting plays a part in IT business operations
Develop and configure automated solutions for routine tasks; process optimization.
Develop and manage data APIs that will be consumed by the organization.
Assist in enhancing and expanding our Qlik analytics capabilities to support our data-driven decision-making approach
Use Generative AI tools (Github Copilot ChatGPT etc.) to assist with code generation documentation and learning unfamiliar concepts. Understand what a hallucination is and how to identify it.
Understands usage boundaries for sensitive data and models in AI assisted work; knows when and when not to put different types of data into AI tools.
Actively incorporate Generative AI into workflows to learn accelerate development automate repetitive tasks and improve productivity across all areas of work.
Diagnose and address root causes of issues related to database platforms or their integration.
Monitor system performance and propose improvements to enhance data reliability efficiency and quality.
Maintain and/or create documentation for database support.
Understand how ETL/ELT plays a role in data operations and data movement.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in computer science technology or related field or equivalent experience
Some experience with public cloud database architectures
Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases and query authoring creating various objects etc.
Experience in building processes to support data transformation data structures dependency and workload management.
Demonstrated experience in implementing database technologies at scale including transaction processing analytics security logging and monitoring.
Foundational knowledge of Python
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks assigned
Analytical problem-solving abilities with a focus on identifying and resolving issues in a timely manner while keeping solutions as simple as possible.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Effective collaboration and communication skills.
Approaches challenges with positivity takes ownership and remains humble in success and setbacks.
Preferred Skills
Experience with Java and Agile practices.
AWS associate level certification.
Understand CI/CD concepts.
Introductory Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and data science tools.
Familiarity with dimensional modeling data warehouses data marts and data vault methodologies.
Experience with Qlik Sense or Qlik View BI tools and or Talend
In-depth working knowledge and administration of structured and unstructured data: RDS; Oracle MySQL PostgreSQL or SQL Server; DynamoDB and/or MongoDB is a plus.
