Job Description

Managing Director Global HSE (Safety Health & Environment)

Work Location: Bangkok Thailand

The client is a global leading seafood company

Main purpose of the role:
  • Strategic direction: Define strategic direction for Group HSE and allocate resources to deliver key functional objectives in alignment with the Group strategic goals.
  • Best-in-class safety health and environment: Oversee the design and implementation of the Group HSE standards systems processes in compliance with regulations (e.g. ISO); ensure overall group wide compliance to standards; define HSE roadmap and incident management communication.
  • People and leadership: Motivate lead and challenge team members to reach / exceed targets and objectives. Improve and sustain employee engagement scores to be within the top quartile; develop strong internal leadership pipeline and set positive working culture with teams across the Group
Key accountabilities:
1. Strategic direction
  • Define Group HSE strategic direction for the Group.
  • Collaborate with the Group Director (Sustainability and Corporate Communications Procurement Finance Human Resource and other relevant functions / business units) to align on Group Sustainability agenda for the Group Operations.
  • Design and recommend the Group HSE roadmap and improvement plan.
  • Oversee the design of HSE programs focused on health safety and environment for all employees contractors and plant / office visitors.
  • Oversee the development of plant / BU HSE KPIs between BU Manufacturing Leads HSE BU Compliance Lead Plant Managers and Plant HSE Manager.
  • Collaborate with the BU Manufacturing Leads to ensure active performance monitoring and timely mitigation actions taken to deliver concrete improvements.

2. Best-in-class safety & health and environment
2.1 Standards and programs
  • Oversee and be accountable for the development of HSE policies standards and processes for the Group; ensure learnings from past implementations are incorporated into future programs and policies.
  • Drive standardization of HSE practices including policies standards processes and system across the Group.
  • Drive collaboration with Plant HSE Managers to determine certification requirements (e.g. ISO) and ensure required certificates are acquired and maintained.
  • Oversee and be accountable for the design and implementation of groupwide Occupational Health and Safety and Environment impact reduction related programs and initiatives.
  • Jointly develop maintain and execute Group level business continuity plan including conducting regular refreHSErs (with Group Risk and Group legal).
  • Manage the sharing of best practices from Group / other plants to prevent and reduce adverse impacts from poor industrial hygiene / workplace safety standards / environment controls; ensure consistency across The Group.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure relevant HSE policies are updated.

2.2 Compliance and audit
  • Drive collaboration between Group HSE functions (HSE Technical Leads HSE BU Compliance Lead Plant HSE Managers) and BU / plant management to ensure HSE policy / roadmap implementation and adherence.
  • Oversee the validation of the critical HSE inspection outcomes by HSE BU Compliance Lead for each plant and ensure the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (e.g. emergency response readiness inspection air emission sampling).
  • Oversee and moderate HSE responses for large scale Group wide external audits.
  • Oversee the design schedule and execution of HSE internal audits / inspections across plants.

2.3 Incident management and Implementation
  • Supervise and ensure Group support for Plant HSE teams on serious incidents; ensure appropriate investigation communication and corrective action to prevent reoccurrence (e.g. injury illness chemical spills).

2.4 Capability frameworks training and communication
  • Oversee and be accountable for the evaluation of HSE skills competency requirements and design of appropriate interventions ensuring consistency across The Group.
  • Approve and oversee the design and execution of groupwide HSE training curriculums and HSE communication materials (including onboarding); drive consistency across The Group as practically possible.
  • Monitor the rollout of HSE training including Train-the-trainer HSE sessions for key personnel across all plants.

2.5 Other operations
  • Drive HSE due-diligences for new business acquisition.
  • Oversee and be accountable for the selection and management of HSE digital systems and tools globally for Group and Plants.
  • Monitor status of HSE projects with high impact / investment value e.g. on fire protection elements; resolve HSE-related roadblocks when raised.
  • Monitor and give inputs to any the Group projects / operational changes that have impact on safety health and environment.

3. People and leadership
  • Motivate lead and challenge Group and Plant HSE teams to reach / exceed HSE targets and objectives cultivating a culture of health and safety consciousness across The Group.
  • Foster an environment of open communication and teamwork to embody a strong culture of collaboration.
  • Create the culture to attract develop and retain talent as well as drive employee satisfaction within the HSE function in collaboration with HR.
  • Identify high potential talents and coach teams to fully leverage talent of the team.
  • Drive to improve career development paths & performance mgmt. to enhance team motivation and retain quality talent.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and development to enhance employee skills and competencies.
  • Build longer term view/ plan around people prepare succession plans at different levels.
  • Manage people budget for the Group HSE function in collaboration with HR.

Desired candidate profile:
  • Strong proficiency in HSE standards to ensure employee safety reduce environmental impact and ensure compliance across all the Group sites.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills to resolve priority HSE project roadblocks.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams build a diverse and trust-based leadership team and develop local talent.
  • Demonstrate ability to make hard decisions making the right trade-offs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to drive HSE agenda through cross functional collaboration with BU / plant leadership.
  • Proficient in English.
