JOB TITLE:
Preschool Assistant Recreation Leader II

DIVISION:
Recreation

FSLA CLASS:
Non-Exempt

PART-TIME SEASONAL

SALARY RANGE:
Starting at $17

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the Recreation Supervisor the Preschool Assistant helps plan and organize activities for children ages 35 in a play-based growth-focused environment. Responsibilities include supporting program operations maintaining policies and fostering childrens physical social and emotional development. The ideal candidate is friendly supportive and professional.


This is a Part-Time Seasonal Position.
State law requires that the applicant selected for the position must complete the fingerprint process to check for or verify a conviction record; TB test clearance is also .


Hours and Schedule:

  • Tuesday & Thursday from 8:30 am 12:30 pm.
  • Additional hours are available when necessary.
  • May include nights and weekends as necessary.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

The Preschool Assistant works independently within District guidelines receives daily guidance from the Preschool Teacher and may supervise support staff and volunteers.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices:

  • Assist in leading and implementing activities that support childrens development.
  • Help set up clean and maintain a safe engaging classroom environment.
  • Support children with daily routines and hygiene.
  • Observe and report behavior concerns to the teacher.
  • Communicate professionally with families and staff.
  • Respond to emergencies administer first aid and report incidents.
  • Provide excellent customer service and promote safety.
  • Attend meetings trainings and community events (as needed).
  • Step in for the teacher when needed and perform other assigned duties.
  • Position may also perform other nonessential duties as assigned.


EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Knowledge of recreational activities appropriate for preschool-age children. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers children parents and volunteers. Leadership and organizational skills. Ability to use independent judgment and take appropriate action to ensure childrens and staffs safety. Ability to deal with emergencies and stressful situations.

  • Minimum Education Required:
    must have a high school diploma or equivalent complete at least 6 units of early childhood education coursework (preferred)
  • Minimum Experience Required: 3 months of experience in recreation childcare or related field and/or 1 year of part-time experience in a childcare setting.
  • Other requirements: State law requires all selected applicants 18 and over to be fingerprinted and pass a pre-employment background check. A TB test clearance is for all selected applicants. Reliable transportation to and from work. First Aid/CPR/AED Training or willingness to complete/recertify.
  • Licenses/Certification: Preferred possession of a valid class C California Drivers license.


Environmental Conditions: Outdoor recreational facilities; frequent public contact; exposure to sun heat wind rain
and inclement weather. The schedule may vary.


Physical Conditions:

  • Strength mobility and stamina to bend reach stretch stand kneel walk run stoop lift carry push or pull objects weighing up to 30 pounds while monitoring children and participating in camp activities. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Job involves 30% standing and 70% walking or active movement.
  • Must occasionally feel the attributes of objects by touch; maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling; and be able to walk climb stoop kneel crouch and stand.
  • Strength mobility and stamina to perform various physical activities.
  • Hearing and speech are adequate to communicate in person and over the phone.
  • Vision adequate to monitor children and read fine print.
  • Manual dexterity to grasp and hold objects use fine manipulation write and operate the telephone.
  • Frequently participates in strenuous physical activities such as running sports and other related camp activities in outdoor locations. Frequent monitoring of children requiring the ability to detect and respond to emergencies and provide CPR or First Aid as .


Equipment Used:
Telephone equipment cart arts and crafts supplies and sports equipment.


Transportation Requirements:

Must have reliable transportation to commute to and from work locations within the District.
