:59 PMRseau de linformation (ICI RDI) is seeking a National Lineup Editor to work in its Montreal newsroom.
Your role
As National Lineup Editor you will prepare and supervise content for your assigned programs ensuring that it adheres to the programs objectives ICI RDIs editorial policies and mandate as well as CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices.
This is a permanent full-time position. As an indication this person might be required to work weekdays and/or weekends evenings and days on a variable basis. Schedules will change according to operational needs.
Description of duties:
Keep up with regional national and international news through various sources.
Research review and select stories for reporters and items for newscasts. Identify sources and check facts.
Prepare live standups from reporters in the field and/or in the studio.
Determine story angles. Write copy headlines and intros.
Attend daily story meetings pitch story ideas and discuss story angles with your colleagues.
Line up newscasts. While the newscast is on air decide whether the lineup should be changed to reflect breaking news.
Select video clips. Adapt the content of these clips or reports for various newscast formats.
Vet and correct the work of reporter/editors before broadcast.
After a broadcast provide feedback to reporters program colleagues and management.
Perform reporter duties as required to meet production needs.
Your profile:
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or equivalent
Seven (7) years journalism experience or equivalent
Skills:
Extensive general knowledge coupled with superior analytical and synthesis skills
Confident positive leadership
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Excellent editorial judgment to select relevant items for broadcast
Strong ability to work well under pressure
Proven ability to handle urgent requests and breaking news
Willingness and availability to work irregular hours
In-depth knowledge of national and international news
Excellent command of French
Knowledge of spoken and written English an asset
Strong television writing and storytelling skills
Very good knowledge of newsroom logistics
Knowledge of production techniques
Thorough knowledge and understanding of CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices
