Summary


We are seeking a detail-oriented and compliance-focused Sr. Accountant to lead the financial management and revenue recognition processes for our gifting programs. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate revenue recognition in accordance with US GAAP managing complex reconciliations across multiple systems and overseeing sales tax compliance across various jurisdictions. The Sr. Accountant will serve as the central point of coordination for month-end close processes audit responses and cross-functional collaboration driving financial accuracy through expert technical knowledge clear communication and a commitment to process improvement. Success in this role means delivering compliant and accurate financial reporting on time maintaining seamless system integrations while supporting business growth and ensuring audit readiness across all gifting operations.

Youll spend your days on the following:


  • Ensures revenue recognition is in compliance with US GAAP and applicable company policies.
  • Completes monthly project and general ledger account reconciliations including billed and unbilled revenue; billed and unbilled costs; and sales taxes paid and accrued by jurisdiction.
  • Evaluates sales tax compliance including monitoring states we do business in and assessing for economic threshold; registering in new states as needed; and responds to sales tax notices. Manages SOVOS sales tax reporting filing processes and documentation.
  • Prepares client invoices for gifting programs in accordance with Company policy and contract requirements.
  • Assesses sales taxes on client invoices as needed.
  • Records journal entries (revenue billed and unbilled accounts receivable) and supports other month end close processes.
  • Completes reconciliations between the Dynamics 365 accounting system and other systems used for processing gifting transactions including CommonSku SOVOS Shopify JIRA Stripe and others.
  • Calculates the monthly ASC 606 entry with respect to gifting time and reconciles deferred salary balances.
  • Coordinates and participates in the research and analysis of accounting and financial data including the preparation of the bi-monthly WIP analysis and forecast; analysis of gross profit; and monthly sales by state.
  • Collaborates with the Accounts Receivable Accountant--Experiences to code cash receipts and follow up on past due gifting accounts receivable invoices.
  • Compiles data and prepares a variety of highly complex reports. May present findings to professional staff and/or leadership.
  • Responds to customer and internal inquiries and collaborates cross-functionally to resolve issues.
  • Leads gifting response in connection with annual external audit client audits and internal audits.
  • Recommends improvements and/or changes to processing methods and techniques.
  • Contributes to and ensures the accuracy of accounting data transactions and reports.
  • Ensures accounting files and records are accurate and up to date.
  • Serves as the back-up for the Accounts Payable Accountant--Gifting or other team members as necessary.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.


What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Requires a Bachelors or Masters degree in accounting finance or related discipline along with eight or more years of progressive experience in accounting. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues analyze and interpret data and develop solutions to a variety of complex problems.
  • Excellent analytical verbal and written communication skills to accurately document report and present findings and propose solutions.
  • Accounting experience required in an agency or project-based environment.
  • Attention to detail while working under deadline pressure required.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced high-volume scaling and dynamic business.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) including the requirements of ASC 606.
  • Solid understanding of sales tax rules and obligations.
  • Exercises discretion and professional judgment including a firm understanding of materiality and financial statement misstatement risk.
  • Experience with Dynamics 365 or other ERP system is required.
  • Experience with Shopify CommonSku or SOVOS ideal.
  • Experience with Power BI a plus.
  • Experience working with auditors.
  • Must be able to organize schedule and coordinate work assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Must be customer service focused.
  • Knowledge of MS Office including Microsoft Teams MS Co-Pilot and strong working knowledge of Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work extended hours as required.
  • May need to be available for occasional travel to corporate headquarters in Minnesota.
  • Curiosity about the use of Artificial Intelligence in business applications desired.
