Job Description

General Summary:

The Executive Director Service Line Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders is the business and operations executive responsible for planning organizing and directing operations financial performance and strategic execution. This individual will partner with the Medical Director(s) and/or Surgical Director(s) of the service line Medical Group and Department executive leaders as well as other senior medical center leaders to strategically align and integrate to facilitate highly coordinated patient care with superior clinical outcomes and achieve strategic operational and financial objectives to achieve maximum measurable impact.

The Executive Directors primary reporting relationship will be to the assigned Lurie Childrens Medical Group (LCMG) Vice President and Chief with dotted line reporting to Lurie Childrens Hospital EVP and Chief Operating Officer and accountability to executive leadership of the respective Departments. This leader will supervise and manage departmental administrative personnel and will work closely with other medical center and clinical leaders to effectively coordinate and lead the operations of the service line.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Facilitate system-integrated planning and implementation of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders ensuring seamless patient services and navigation across the service lines care continuum from screening and diagnosis through treatment to long-term health.
2. Manage the comprehensive financial performance of the service line by leading and coordinating budget development for the various departments conducting financial analysis and developing action plans where needed.
3. Engage and coordinate with Lurie Childrens faculty and physicians in multiple specialties across departments who provide the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders treatment and other collaborative services and who are essential to offering the highest standard of multidisciplinary care.
4. Engage and coordinate with multiple corporate functions and services of Lurie Childrens that are critical to service line strategy implementation (e.g. Strategy IT Access HR etc.).
5. Engage and coordinate with multiple corporate functions to provide oversight of finance operations quality initiatives strategic planning research activities and marketing to ensure alignment with organizational goals and enhance the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders effectiveness and excellence in each respective area.
6. Engage and coordinate with multiple corporate functions to provide oversight for inpatient and ambulatory Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders activities with a focus on system initiatives to improve quality safety and efficiency across disciplines and locations. Serves as a liaison with clinical staff in the Department(s).
7. In consultation with other organizational leaders and in partnership with departmental executive leadership teams implements strategic plan and facilitates annual planning and implementation of priority fiscal year initiatives.
8. Prioritizes and facilitates clinical and operational integration of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders services with a focus on improving patient access and the patient experience increasing the efficiency of system capacity and resource utilization and growing the clinical enterprise.
9. Coordinates actions to achieve and maintain appropriate accreditations.
10. Leads measurement management and reporting of service line performance and achievement of performance targets. Advances and deploys appropriate dashboard and other management tools and advocates for data and technology needs.
11. Prioritizes and supports initiatives to achieve the highest levels of physician and employee engagement system-wide in concert with other key leadership. Supports and coordinates recruitment efforts where needed.
12. In partnership with the strategy office and LCMG executive leadership leads implementation of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders 5-year strategic plan with the goal of growing the impact of the service line. Advances strategic proposals to senior leadership for major initiatives.
13. Provide guidance to and coordinate with the Foundation to support fundraising activities on behalf of the service line. Monitor and track donor dollars to ensure proper utilization.
14. Make recommendations for space and other resources needed by the service line makes staff recommendations to support clinical functions. Ensure the development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services and create and maintain effective physician relationships.
15. Other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Masters degree in Business Administration Healthcare Administration Public Health Nursing or closely related field.

2. A minimum of 5 years of progressive responsibility at a managerial level preferably in an academic medical center.
3. Subject-matter expertise in SERIVCE LINE care delivery.
4. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated effectiveness working in partnership with multiple stakeholders throughout an organization. This includes the ability to achieve consensus through thought leadership influential leadership partnership relationship building and strong collaboration with physician nursing and other clinical and administrative staff.

5. Demonstrated understanding of the management issues in a highly complex clinical service and academic environment and ability to provide initiative judgment and creativity in the resolution of complex problems.

6. Strong financial and analytics expertise in budget forecasting development and management.

7. Demonstrated ability to identify analyze and present all pertinent information/data to make and effectively communicate decisions to meet the SERVICE LINEs current and future clinical financial academic and administrative needs.
8. Working knowledge of applicable standards and requirements of regulatory accreditation and licensing agencies. Knowledge of national trends and key issues related to quality performance improvement patient safety population health and health equity.
9. Demonstrated ability to manage and lead staff in a changing environment. Comfort operating in fast-paced environment managing stressful and sometimes competing needs.

Pay Range

$166400.00-$274560.00 Salary

At Lurie Childrens we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity reflecting individual contributions experience and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position.
