REPORTS TO: Transit Shop Foreman
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
CLASSIFICATION: Personnel System - Requires satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period
PAY GRADE: 117
SAFETY SENSITIVE: CDL - Subject to random drug testing per the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance

Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to perform repairs and maintenance on transit vehicles (heavy-duty buses and paratransit vans) other support vehicles and/or equipment. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to diagnosing analyzing and repairing mechanical problems assigning vehicles to meet scheduled maintenance requirements and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Job Related Requirements

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday -Thursday 12:30 PM -11:00 PM (4 -10 hour days) This position may require a rotating on-call schedule for nights weekends and holidays.

May be required to work on religious holidays.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Must work cooperatively with others.

Must follow all applicable work place safety practices and use appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses bump helmets gloves).

When requirements include vehicle operation responsible for the safety readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by Transit Maintenance Plan and ACCs safe driving policy.

Emergency Position
This position is designated as an emergency position that requires your attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions. Some examples of emergencies include inclement weather utility failure fire or other forced evacuations or as determined by the Manager.

Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Automotive or Diesel Technical College degree with one year of automotive or diesel engine maintenance and repair or related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this position.

Must possess or be able to obtain within 9 months of the date of hire a valid Class B Georgia Commercial Drivers License with Passenger Endorsement.

Must possess a valid drivers license.

Must possess ASE Refrigerant Recovery & Recycling Certification or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of the date of hire.

Must complete Cummins QuickServe online Training for Cummins Midrange Engines within 12 months of the date of hire.

Must obtain the ability to utilize Transit manufactures diagnostic software through Transits In-House training program for bus powertrains drivetrains and all other computer controlled sub-systems found on Transit buses within 12 months of the date of hire.

Essential Duties Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Conducts scheduled and unscheduled major and minor repairs overhauls and preventive maintenance to any mechanical or electrical system on vehicles and equipment to include gasoline and diesel engines transmissions generators 12 and 24 volt electrical systems engine and transmission computer systems heating and air-conditioning systems air and hydraulic brake systems wheelchair lifts fire suppression systems automated vehicle location systems diesel engine exhaust after treatment systems video surveillance systems automatic passenger counting systems electronic engine cooling fan system multiplex electrical systems.

Conducts and schedules all manufactures recommended preventative maintenance services per the manufactures specifications and requirements.

Diagnoses mechanical electrical or other vehicle and or equipment problems; performs corrective repairs and maintenance on all vehicles and equipment assigned to the department.

Repairs rebuilds or replaces defective components of computer board computer wiring circuits and components.

Diagnoses mechanical or electrical problems and performs corrective repairs and maintenance on all support equipment to include a forklift air compressor steam cleaner pressure washer and tire repair equipment.

Utilizes laptop to access manufactures diagnostic software (Cummins Allison Apollo International Wabco Dinex Multiplex and GFI) to repair vehicle system faults.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Skilled in the use of maintenance equipment such as in-ground hoists brake lathes 50-ton presses bench grinders tire repair and balancing equipment etc. electronic test and diagnostic equipment and software and air conditioning repair equipment.

Skill in the use of miscellaneous vehicles and equipment such as forklifts two-way radios etc.

Ability to use and comprehend manufactures service manuals to diagnose and repair Transit vehicle fleet.

Ability to compile organize prepare and maintain an assortment of records reports and information in an effective manner and according to departmental and/or governmental regulations.

Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and other staff members.

Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations.

Ability to handle required mathematical calculations.

Ability to plan organize and/or prioritize daily assignments and work activities.

Ability to comprehend and apply regulations and procedures of the department.

(ADA) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including maintenance equipment test and diagnostic equipment etc. Must be able to use body members to work move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting fingering grasping feeling talking hearing seeing and repetitive motion. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those ofheavy work.

DATA CONCEPTION: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data people or things.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to hear speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisors).

LANGUAGE ABILITY: Requires the ability to read a variety of work orders inspection and other maintenance forms and reports and informational documentation directions instructions and methods and procedures. Requires the ability to prepare work orders inspection forms reports such as oil sample reports etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation grammar diction and style. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise voice control and confidence.

INTELLIGENCE: Requires the ability to learn and understand basic principles and techniques; to acquire and be able to expound on knowledge of topics related to primary occupation; and to make independent judgment in the absence of management.

VERBAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to record and deliver information to explain procedures and to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of administrative technical or professional languages including mechanical and electrical terminology.

NUMERICAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; and utilize and determine percentages.

FORM/SPATIAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length width and shape visually with maintenance equipment such as micrometers dial indicators rulers tape measures and air conditioning gauges.

MOTOR COORDINATION: Requires the ability to coordinate hands fingers and eyes accurately in using maintenance equipment test and diagnostic equipment etc. Requires the ability to lift bend push pull manipulate equipment/tools and objects as the position necessitates.

MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as maintenance equipment such as in-ground hoists brake lathes 50-ton presses bench grinders etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

COLOR DISCRIMINATION: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.

INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency.

PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone and two-way radio.
