We operate a small college-like campus in Fair Oaks that houses many of our students are seeking an experienced Ceramics Instructor who is creative and dedicated to Meristems mission.
The Ceramics Instructor will providehands-on instruction in ceramic arts while fostering creativity self-expression and motor skill development. The ideal candidate has a passion for working with neurodiverse individuals and a strong background in education disabilities psychology arts or special education.

Schedule: MondayFriday 8:00 am 5:00 pm Job Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Development
Design and lead ceramics classes tailored to neurodiverse young adults focusing on skill-building creativity and self-confidence
Prepare curriculum and lesson plans with a developmental progression ensuringaccessibility for all students
Teach foundational techniques including hand-building wheel-throwing glazing and kiln firing
Integrate movement-based activities that improve balance coordination and spatial awareness with support from movement instructors
Use educational projects linking them to natural surroundingspractical life skills and artistic development
Modify activities to meet individual needs and abilities
Student Support & Development
Provide individualized and group support accommodating various learning styles and sensory needs
Work one-on-one and in small groups to develop fine gross motor and proprioceptive skills
Assess client abilities align projects with their skills and goals and track progressthrough written reports
Foster a positive inclusive and sensory-friendly studio environment
Teach students to engage with materials responsibly by understanding their ecological impact
Collaborate with therapists educators and families to ensure a comprehensiveapproach to student development
Classroom & Studio Management
Maintain and manage the classroom space and materials with an emphasis on safety cleanliness and organization
Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and guidelines educating students on proper equipment use
Manage material budgets track expenses and ensure proper resource allocation
Maintain a craft space and regularly upkeep tools and studio equipment
Professional Development & Team Collaboration
Attend daily and weekly staff meetings and staff check-ins
Participate in staff training and integrate new strategies to address primitive reflexes and improve functional movement
Engage with the founding principles of the Meristem program and contribute tomaintaining its cultural norms
Support the onboarding process of new clients and staff
Engage in collaborative educational offerings and implement program-orientedapproaches
Serve as a substitute when staff members are absent
Develop a professional growth plan with supervision and actively engage inresearch-based assessments
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Education Special Education Psychology or Arts
Minimum 2 years of teaching experience
Current CA Drivers License and updated auto insurance
Experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum - preferred
Background in art therapy adaptive arts or occupational therapy preferred
Strong understanding of ceramic techniques and materials
Knowledge of sensory integration motor development and movement-basedinterventions and modify instruction based on student needs
Ability to evaluate clients skill levels and safely guide engagement
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong ability to self-reflect and implement new learning strategies
Ability to multitask prioritize and maintain attention to classroom details
Strong safety and classroom management skills
Patience creativity and a passion for inclusive arts education
Ability to engage with multiple perspectives in an unbiased manner
Training and/or experience in at least one additional craft (e.g. textiles metalswoodworking carpentry herbal arts machine mechanics jewelry forging photography basketry primitive skills)
Willingness to develop versatility in at least two additional crafts
Familiarity or willingness to learn Transformative Movement Education Ruskin MillTherapeutic craft education or Waldorf education
