You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailWe are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Physician who will serve as a champion for the Patient Care Center Model (PCCM) for the Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) Healthcare Services Division (HSD). This position will oversee the implementation and monitoring activities of the PCCM to ensure compliance with the model expectations. This role will oversee healthcare service delivery provided by CHP Staff to inmates. Services include providing comprehensive medical care including medical history reviews physical examinations and diagnostic testing. This position will collaborate with the CHP to develop and implement individualized care plans for inmates which is essential in providing care in the PCCM.
This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health outcomes of a diverse population within a correctional setting and communities. The position will consult with CHP leaders and staff and collaborate with other healthcare professionals including nurses nurse practitioners and mental health providers to ensure the delivery of integrated care plans. Additionally this position will assist the CHP with managing medication regimens ordering diagnostic tests and interpreting results to formulate appropriate treatment plans. Collaboration with the ADCRR Medical Director Dental Director and Mental Health Director will be essential in providing cohesive and comprehensive healthcare services.
Monitoring and analyzing healthcare data to identify trends patterns and areas for improvement in contractor performance and patient outcomes will be essential in this role.

- Oversee the PCCM implementation and monitor the effectiveness of the health services delivery
- Evaluate and recommend methods of improving operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness of health-related services
- Meet with contractors and outside hospital/agency administrators to ensure a close working relationship between them and the facilities
- Review patient charts for appropriateness of care provided in accordance with established clinical practice guidelines and protocols (e.g. review of comprehensive health assessments of inmates including medical history review physical examination and diagnostic testing)
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for inmates with complex medical needs
- Provide education and training on health promotion disease prevention and strategies for chronic conditions on an individual or group basis
- Review medical events for timely responses to medical emergencies intervention and stabilization of patients.
- Collaborate with contractors external healthcare providers and community resources to coordinate continuity of care for inmates transitioning from correctional facilities to community settings.
- Attend seminars workshops conferences etc. as requires
- Help to draft policies procedures and work processes
- Other duties as assigned
- Travel on State business
Knowledge of:
- ADCRR policies and procedures States and Arizona Revised Statutes
- Advanced understanding of nursing principles theories and practices. Comprehensive knowledge of pathophysiology pharmacology and medical therapeutics
-Familiarity with diagnostic procedures laboratory tests and interpretation of results
-Understanding of healthcare delivery systems including primary acute and long-term care
-Knowledge of healthcare regulations standards and best practices related to advanced practice and nursing staff
Skill in:
- Clinical Assessment: to perform comprehensive health assessments including physical examination medical history review and diagnostic testing
- Proficiency in diagnosing and managing acute and chronic health conditions prescribing medications and ordering diagnostic tests as appropriate
- Implementing evidence-based therapeutic interventions to promote health prevent illness and manage disease. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with patients families colleagues and other healthcare professionals
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish rapport build trust and collaborate with diverse populations
- Identifying problems evaluating alternative solutions and implementing effective strategies to address clinical challenges
- Capacity to lead and coordinate interdisciplinary teams facilitate collaboration and promote a culture of patient-centered care
Ability to:

- Provide high-quality evidence-based patient care across the lifespan and in various healthcare settings

- Travel to different facilities and complexes as needed
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school
- Valid license to practice medicine in the state of employment with board certification or eligibility in a primary care specialty (e.g. internal medicine family medicine or emergency medicine)
- Preferred work experience in a correctional health setting
Must possess a valid unrestricted Arizona Medical license
Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.
