Job Description

Pay Grade/Pay Range:Minimum: $48600 - Midpoint: $60800 (Salaried E7)

Department/Organization:301103 - Alumni Affairs

Normal Work Schedule:Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Job Summary:The Graphic Designer II creates and implements moderately-complex graphic design projects for a department or the University under moderate supervision. Produces graphic designs and illustrations using computer and traditional methods. Formats and edits text. Prepares layouts and specifications for pre-print publications and other promotional media. May provide guidance and training to entry-level Graphic Designers.

Additional Department Summary:Works to further the strategic initiatives of The University of Alabama National Alumni Association (NAA) through the creation and execution of audience and mission appropriate graphic design. Projects strengthens and sustains a positive image of the University and the National Alumni Association. Creates visual concepts using computer software (Adobe Design Suite etc.) to communicate ideas that inspire inform or captivate the desired target markets of the National Alumni Association. Develops layouts and production designs for advertisements logos brochures magazines reports evites web and social media and other products in line with National Alumni Association branding rules and University guidelines.

Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelors degree and two (2) years of art commercial art graphic design or visual communication experience; OR masters degree and some art commercial art graphic design or visual communication experience.

Skills and Knowledge:Deadline-driven with the ability to self-manage. Mastery of specialized graphic design software especially Adobe InDesign Photoshop and Illustrator to prepare and share designs. Ability to receive and apply creative direction. Ability to think and plan strategically as part of a team. Ability to take responsibility for projects following through from conception to completion. Ability to exercise leadership in the interpretation and implementation of the Universitys unifying graphic standards. Strong internet technology and communication skills. Ability to manage and organize files. Ability to look at work from the point-of-view of the target market. Ability to examine how designs will be perceived to ensure they convey the desired message. Strong organizational and technical skills. Ability to work quickly efficiently and accurately.

Understanding of copyright law as it applies to the use of digital assets typography and content. Understanding of ADA compliance as it applies to digital design. Ability to create high-quality designs that are artistically interesting and appealing to the target market. Ability to adhere to NAA branding University guidelines and project workflows during the creative process. Strong understanding of raster file resolution manipulation and file types. Mastery of vector file creation manipulation and exporting various file types. Strong understanding of the use of artboards in Adobe Illustrator. Ability to communicate with other departments across campus to ensure designs accurately reflect the desired message and effectively express information. Ability to think of new approaches to communicate ideas. Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time each with a different deadline. Strong experience preparing files for press printing. Expertise with AI image generation. Experience using project management software to complete tasks (Wrike Basecamp etc.). Experience delegating tasks and managing student employees.

Preferred Qualifications:Agency or higher-education graphic design experience. Experience in a fast-paced collaborative environment. Provide a strong online portfolio of previously published work (not only conceptual work) showing multiple examples of both print and digital designs.
