Job Description

General Medicine Physician

  • Permanent full time and part time available
  • Salary: ASMS MECA 2024(NZD 185380 - 267980)

Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora invites applications for a General Medicine Physician to be involved in our Hospital in the Home (HitH) programme for Dunedin Hospital. This is a permanent 0.4 role with on call duties providing care for a population of approximately 350000 spread over the lower South Island of New Zealand.

Working across Monday to Friday you willsupport the integration between the acute hospital and acute community service that enables patients to receive hospital level of care while they remain in their homes. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that will improve the quality in the care of our patients delivering sustainable and safe healthcare.

This role will be attached to our MAU service at Dunedin Hospital The role will focus on transitions of care and on people with high and complex needs and from there develop and expand the evolution of the Hospital in the Home (HitH) programme and provide clinical leadership in a multidisciplinary team accepting referrals from a wide range of services i.e. Surgical Womens Health and Adult Medical.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of good clinical quality and safety of the HitH service for HitH and the MAU.
  • Work closely with other acute inpatient services especially MAU to maximise patient flow into the community.
  • Work in collaborative partnership within multidisciplinary teams and within the HitH service.
  • Build a shared sense of direction for the HitH and MAU services inspire the broader HitH and MAU teams to achieve identified priorities and goals.
  • Support and input into growth and evolution of the service both locally and regionally by development of business cases and Model of Care and/or clinical pathways.
  • Contribute and lead on transformational pieces of work leading teams through change.
  • Support and participate in Regional Integrated Care work in the development of HitH.
  • Work clinically in the HitH programme consulting with other specialties as required or with the referring clinician when appropriate.

Area/Role specific requirements Education and Training:

  • Experience in and knowledge of working in a HitH service and/ or providing virtual consults is desirable
  • Proven ability to provide professional advice to team members in relation to clinical and operational skills and practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to overview the practice of team members to ensure the needs of both patients and the organisation are addressed.
  • A passion to support clinical services to develop medical staff to reach their full potential.
  • Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and in New Zealand

Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($185380) and Step 15 ($267980 per annum pro rata)
