We are seeking a skilled and innovative Optical Sensor Development Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team focused on advancing underwater security technologies. This role is pivotal in designing developing testing and deploying cutting-edge optical sensor systems for underwater surveillance and security applications. You will become a part of our young and enthusiastic R&D department working in a dynamic multidisciplinary and stimulating international environment with great growth opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Analysing and defining system requirements based on input from customers partners and product management.
Conceptualization and mechanical design of sensors and structural components based on defined requirements and industry standards.
Performing calculations/simulations of the designed system.
Generating 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacturing.
Supporting assembly testing and verification of prototypes.
Documenting and reporting development process for internal and external stakeholders.
Taking part on system integration or test campaigns with the end customer (surface vessel submarine seabed deployment etc.).

Qualifications:
Must be able to obtain security clearance (EU NATO).
MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering Physics or a related technical discipline.
Ideally 5 years of relevant work experience.
Proficient in mechanical design and analysis using CAD (SolidWorks PDM) and FEA (COMSOL) software.
Knowledge of materials and their properties (metals and polymers).
Understanding of design for manufacturing assembly and reliability.
Experience with data analysis using Python.
Good communication skills in English.
Structured and independent working style with excellent collaborative skills.
Strong plus:
Experience in the area of vibro-acoustics.
Experience with fiber optics and fiber optic sensors.
Experience in Defence or other highly regulated industry
Youll be working with clients in the defense and security sectors obtaining a Certificate of No Objection issued by the AIVD (Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory.
