Job Description:
We are seeking an Actuarial Manager or Senior Actuarial Manager to join the Capital and Reinsurance Management team. This is a mid/senior-level role focus on capital management under the Canadian LICAT framework. Key responsibilities include capital roll-forward analysis forecasting capital planning financial condition testing and supporting various ad-hoc capital initiatives. Success in this position requires solid experience in capital management and/or understanding of IFRS 17 strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities effective communication skills and a result-driven mindset. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on in-depth exposure to capital management.
Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day capital management activities under the LICAT regime including capital movement analyses capital forecasting sensitivity analysis inforce and new business capital contribution assessment capital generation monitoring and preparation of capital dashboard and board materials.
Responsible for the development of capital plans (on the LICAT basis) as part of the medium-term strategic plan (H1) and the detailed business plan (H2) providing insightful commentary to support management decision-making.
Conduct annual Financial Condition Testing (FCT) to evaluate capital adequacy over a 5-year horizon across various adverse scenarios identifying key risks and recommending management actions.
Support ad-hoc LICAT capital analyses related to pricing investment ALM and other business initiatives ensuring capital impacts are thoroughly assessed and managed; explore and execute capital optimization strategies as required; perform qualitative impact analysis (QIS) for regulatory development on LICAT guidelines when necessary.
Collaborate across-functionally with local regional office and corporate teams providing expertise advice and responses to LICAT-related requests and initiatives.
Supervise and coach junior staff; support other initiatives and address emerging matters when needed.
Qualifications
Qualified actuary - FSA FCIA FIA FIAA or equivalent
7 or more years of experience in life insurance industry
Proven expertise in capital management asset and liability cash flow projection and stress testing
Solid understanding of IFRS 17 particularly earnings analysis is a strong asset; experience with Moodys Axis is a plus
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a strong result-driven mindset
Strong planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines efficiently
Demonstrated capability to work independently with minimal supervision and lead projects effectively
Highly self-motivated with a strong learning mindset and high attention to details
Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing professional reports and presentations
Effective people management skills
Consistently demonstrates initiative accountability and a commitment to excellence
