The opportunity


EY is looking for a highly motivated ambitious enthusiastic and business-oriented Manager to join our Payroll team.

As a Payroll Manager you will be responsible for leading and managing payroll services for a portfolio of national and international clients. You will oversee a team of payroll consultants and specialists ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing while maintaining high standards of compliance client service and operational excellence.

You will serve as a key point of contact for clients providing expert guidance on payroll-related matters and contributing to the continuous improvement and digital transformation of payroll processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for a diverse client portfolio ensuring full compliance with local tax labor and social security regulations;
  • Lead coach and develop a team of payroll professionals ensuring workload balance technical development and performance management;
  • Act as the main contact for key clients building trusted relationships and providing strategic payroll guidance and support;
  • Monitor legislative changes and ensure clients payroll processes and policies remain compliant;
  • Review and validate payroll calculations reports and tax filings before submission;
  • Collaborate closely with internal departments to provide integrated client solutions;
  • Support business development efforts including proposal preparation and presentations to prospective clients;
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and contribute to the automation and digitalization of payroll services;
  • Ensure data privacy and compliance with GDPR and firm standards.

To qualify for the role the candidate must have

  • Degree in Business Administration Human Resources Accounting Law or related field;
  • At least 6 years of experience in payroll with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role preferably within a consultancy or shared services environment;
  • Solid knowledge of Portuguese payroll legislation tax and social security frameworks;
  • Experience with payroll software and systems;
  • Strong Excel skills; ability to work with large data sets and reports;
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written); other languages are a plus.
