Research Technician
Permanent full-time role Lower Hutt

The Measurement Standards Laboratory of New Zealand (MSL) is New Zealands National Metrology Institute. MSL is responsible for maintaining and disseminating the SI units of measurement to New Zealand users by realising and supporting units of measurement of importance to New Zealand and by making them available through calibration services.

The Research Technician role fits within the Length section but also contributes across MSL as opportunities and needs match your skills.

What you do:

  • Maintaining the accuracy and reliability of New Zealands measurement standards
  • Providing timely and high quality calibration and measurement services to a wide range of customers
  • Keeping pace with technology changes to prepare for future needs of industry government and the New Zealand public.
  • You carry out calibration and maintenance of NZs national measurement scales and lab equipment (including software and hardware improvements).
  • Quality. You support MSLs ISO 17025 accreditation and our obligations under the CIPM MRA.
  • You deliver services to industry including calibration measurement consultancy training assessment and technical guidance.
  • You provide technical support for the research and development activities of your section.
