A Legacy of Care
Calvary Haydon offers both residential aged care and independent living units with spacious rooms air conditioning and onsite parking. Our lifestyle team runs a varied calendar of activities and residents have the opportunity to join regular outings to local cafs bakeries galleries and other community spaces.
Calvary Haydon is named in honour of the Very Rev. Monsignor Patrick Maurice Haydon the first parish priest of Canberra. The youngest of nine children Monsignor Haydon stood 64 tall and was both academically gifted and deeply committed to his faith. He entered the priesthood straight from school and with special dispensation was ordained at the age of 22 two years younger than the usual minimum.
In 1928 he was appointed the first pastor of St Christophers Parish (now the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn) and later became Vicar-General of the Diocese in 1940. In 1941 Pope Pius XII awarded him the title of Protonotary Apostolic - the highest honour for a monsignor.
