Job Summary
The Director of the Business and Economic Development Center ( BEDC ) is a grant-funded position that provides strategic leadership and oversight of the BEDCs operations programs and staff. This role involves managing personnel coordinating economic development initiatives and community outreach and fostering partnerships to support the economic empowerment of the community. The Director ensures that the BEDC serves as a vital resource for business development financial literacy homeownership and entrepreneurial skills training.
Essential Functions
Operational Oversight Oversee the daily operations of the BEDC including staff workflow coordination client appointment scheduling and training logistics Maintain accurate and confidential client records while fostering a service-oriented environment for clients students staff and community members Personnel Management Provide direct supervision and support to BEDC Counselors promoting a culture of collaboration accountability and professional growth Conduct performance evaluations delegate responsibilities and lead team-building initiatives Program & Services Coordination Coordinate and participate in the delivery of BEDC programs including credit counseling small business development homeownership and financial literacy Manage administrative tasks such as client intake and follow-up curriculum development public presentations data entry budgeting purchasing and general office duties Develop new program offerings aligned with community needs and institutional priorities Community Engagement Serve as an accessible leader to students staff and community partners including the Midland Chamber of Commerce Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Midland Development Corporation and local non-profits Deliver presentations on and off campus to promote BEDC programs and partnerships Collaborate with internal departments to increase awareness and participation in BEDC services Data & Continuous Improvement Track and analyze program outcomes client contact hours event attendance revenue and expenses Prepare and submit timely reports to the City of Midland to ensure compliance with grant requirements and continued funding Event Coordination Organize and manage events including promotion catering and facility logistics Lead the planning and execution of recurring events such as Founders Blend ensuring smooth coordination and delivery Grant Management Lead the full grant lifecycle including data collection preparation and submission of annual proposals for the City of Midland and Wells Fargo Ensure compliance with all reporting requirements and deadlines Proactively identify and apply for additional grant opportunities to diversify and sustain BEDC funding Marketing & Promotion Monitor and update the departmental website and participate in social media initiatives Develop marketing and promotional materials to support program visibility and engagement Record Keeping & Reporting Maintain accurate spreadsheets and databases to support internal and external reporting Produce monthly quarterly and annual reports including budget projections to support grant applications and institutional planning Client Services Interact effectively with clients from diverse socio-economic ethnic and cultural backgrounds Provide one-on-one guidance and support to BEDC clients in alignment with program goals Teamwork & Adaptability Work effectively both independently and as part of a team to support departmental goals Perform other duties as assigned to advance the mission and objectives of the BEDC
Physical Demands
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for approximately 50% of the time Must occasionally move about or drive to various locations on and off campus Frequent use of hands and fingers for keyboarding and other tasks requiring manual dexterity Must be able to communicate effectively and exchange accurate information in both verbal and written forms Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus Occasionally lifts and moves materials or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds Work is primarily performed indoors in a standard office or college setting with occasional duties performed outdoors Must be able to travel for training meetings and events including both in-town and out-of-town travel Ability to work extended hours including some evenings and weekends and attend Midland College or community events as needed
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree Bilingual in English and Spanish Demonstrated experience in business ownership or entrepreneurial leadership Strong written and verbal communication skills Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License good driving record and be insurable on Midland Colleges insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree MBA preferred Three years of supervisory experience Business ownership experience
