With a staff of about 1400 we are committed to promoting a sustainable economic secure and socially just energy supply system based on renewable energy sources. We contribute to this through our main research areas of energy provision energy distribution energy storage and energy utilization. Through outstanding research results and successful industrial projects spin-off companies and global collaborations we are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system.
For our group Energy Systems and Energy Economics we are looking for a student assistant with the opportunity to write the masters thesis.
The Energy Systems and Energy Economics group at Fraunhofer ISE is concerned with the analysis and evaluation of energy systems energy technologies and issues relating to the energy transition. The REMod energy system model is used to calculate and optimise transformation paths of the German and European energy system (incl. consumption sectors transport buildings industry) up to the year 2050. The model uses simulation-based optimisation which is solved with an evolutionary optimisation algorithm (julia programming language used). Due to ongoing model extensions the complexity of the model increases and thus also the optimisation times. The aim of the master thesis on Analysis and comparison of different optimisation algorithms for the solution of a simulation-based energy system model is to investigate the convergence behaviour and robustness of the algorithm used (CMA-ES) to adapt the implementation of the optimisation if necessary and to compare it with an alternative algorithm in order to develop recommendations for a reduction of the computing time.
