Job Description

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University Singapore in partnership with Imperial College London LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The Schools primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical August 2024 we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine with an emphasis on technology data science and the humanities.

A Research Fellow position is available at A/Prof Yusuf Alis laboratory at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine part of Nanyang Technological University.

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow with a background in Nutrition or related Biological Sciences to join the laboratory of A/Prof Yusuf Ali. The role of the Research Fellow is to develop and implement methods for assessing the nutritional profiles and safety of new crop strains. This research contributes to the universitys mission of advancing public health and sustainability through innovative agricultural practices. The fellow will play a crucial role in generating data that informs best practices in food safety and nutritional adequacy.

  • Design and execute in vivo and in vitro experiments

  • Perform molecular biology and bacterial culture assays and experiments

  • Conduct animal studies with germ-free and conventional mice

  • Diet-host relationship and experience in plant-based diets will be advantageous

  • Conduct analyses in areas such as micronutrient content peptidomics host microbiome impact immunology and metabolomics

  • Contribute to research grant writing including literature review and preliminary data

  • Contribute to research deliverables including manuscript writing attending local and/or international conferences

  • Mentor and supervision of undergraduate/ PhD students and junior research staff

Key Competencies and Education Requirements:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences Food Science or a related field

  • Strong background in nutritional analysis food safety and data integration methods

  • Proficiency in relevant laboratory techniques and data analysis software

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
