Job Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of SLICE the Assistant Director Associated Students of Occidental College provides strategic support to the Associated Students of Occidental College (ASOC) student organizations and campus engagement initiatives. The Assistant Director will ensure responsible fiscal stewardship align budget priorities and support effective financial management of ASOC programs and initiatives. As the principal advisor and financial steward for ASOC the Assistant Director oversees a $1.25 million budget and ensures compliance and integrity across all ASOC accounts and student organization funding models. The Assistant Dean will also work closely and collaboratively with the Senior Associate Director Student Leadership Involvement & Community Engagement to role foster the holistic development of student leaders through leadership coaching engagement in shared governance and culturally responsive programming. It also advances inclusive student involvement through training and strategic collaboration with key campus partners. Additionally the Assistant Director manages ASOC communications and branding maintains governance systems and oversees daily operations of the Student Activities Center including the supervision of student staff.
Job Duties
- 35% - Leadership Development & Student Support- Design and deliver comprehensive onboarding orientation and continuing education programs for ASOC leadership. Serve as a leadership coach and strategic advisor to the ASOC Executive Committee and student organizations. Promote diversity equity access and inclusion through culturally responsive leadership initiatives. Support voter registration and civic engagement programming. Conduct exit interviews to support the continuous improvement of student governance and services. - (Essential)
- 35% - Finance & Budget Administration - Manage ASOCs financial operations including budget development general ledger reconciliation student organization funding and fiscal reporting. Oversee financial compliance with college policies IRS regulations and audit standards. Liaise with ASOCs CPA Business Office and banking partners. Train students in budgeting finance systems and stewardship practices using QuickBooks and Banner. Coordinate ASOCs investment activity and advise on capital decisions in conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of SLICE. - (Essential)
- 20% - Program Administration & Communications - Direct ASOC branding publicity and digital communications to enhance engagement and transparency. Maintain and archive records of ASOC activities and governance history. Coordinate student-facing events in collaboration with departments such as the ICC CCBL Emmons Wellness Center and Athletics. - (Essential)
- 10% - Operational Oversight & Supervision - Manage daily operations of the Student Activities Center including supervision of up to 11 student workers. Provide procedural guidance on recruitment onboarding and compensation for ASOC student leaders. Maintain systems and documentation related to ASOC governance spending and services. - (Essential)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in higher education accounting student affairs business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five years of progressive experience in student leadership development and/or financial management.
- Experience in budget oversight program design and advising student-led initiatives. Proficiency in QuickBooks Online Microsoft Office Suite and student finance systems (e.g. Banner).
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence in student development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word Excel PowerPoint) Google drives/folders/forms Adobe Acrobat Web Editing and social media applications or any combination of productivity programs applicable to position responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.

- Ability to provide employee development training and opportunities for direct reports to demonstrate performance achievement and success recognizing performance of both above standards and needs improvement and respond accordingly. Skilled at communicating feedback verbally in writing and electronically; and documenting performance via introductory and annual performance appraisals.
- Skilled in developing and determining corrective employment/performance/behavioral strategies as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute performance improvement plans conducting disciplinary action and/or determining the appropriateness of employment continuation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in higher education administration student affairs or related field.
- Familiarity with student governance structures and student fee funding models.
- Prior experience in a higher education environment preferably within student affairs.
EXPECTED HIRING RANGE:$73900/yr-$82000/yr
If you are offered this position at Occidental College your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills education experience and/or geographic addition to those factors Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
