Position Overview:
The Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) invites well qualified candidates to apply for the position of Tech Support Specialist. The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to work in a fast-paced and energetic environment develop and maintain positive and effective professional relationships be highly organized and be capable of multi-tasking to keep up with the demands of a busy and growing agency. The position affords the opportunity for the candidate to grow their Technical Skillset through mentoring and On-Line Training. ILETSB is conveniently located at the southern edge of downtown Springfield in a beautifully maintained building across from the Lincolns Home National Historic Site with free secured parking on-site.

Essential Functions
- Under immediate supervision performs client help-desk services.
- Performs information systems help-desk services.
- Performs application services related to ILETSBs proprietary database applications.
- Serves as In-Service Technical Coordinator.
- Serves as ILETSBs Telecommunications Coordinator.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of two (2) years of college with preferred coursework in the computer sciences electronic engineering telecommunications or data processing; or requires satisfactory completion of an agency sponsored training program.
- Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years or more of professional experience in and basic understanding of network and client print services.
- Two (2) years or more of professional experience with and ability to plan and implement routine computer and network installations.
- One (1) year or more of experience with and proven ability to be patient and empathetic to end-user technical needs and concerns.
- One (1) year of professional experience in and demonstrable knowledge of electronic hardware functionality and troubleshooting.
- One (1) year of professional experience with and ability to comprehend and conceptualize telecommunication services and their requirements.
- One (1) year of experience with and proven ability to provide technical services to assist non-technical staff in day-to-day service requests.
- One (1) year of experience with and proven ability to prepare and present using standard audio-visual hardware and virtual meeting software.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to verify identity.
- Requires employment authorization to accept a permanent full-time position with the State of Illinois.
- Requires ability to travel including overnight stays to attend seminars conferences and trainings to stay current on methods tools ideologies or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
- Overtime is a condition of employment and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled unscheduled or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings holidays and weekends.
- Requires self-disclosure of criminal history and ability to successfully pass a criminal background and employment history check.
- This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. This job may require a good deal of walking or standing and involves sitting for long periods of time.
