Job Summary:
A chemical technician provides essential technical and analytical services for a fossil fuel power plant. This includes water treatment chemical analysis of water wastewater fuels coal ash and petroleum products. The technician ensures chemical protection of steam-generating equipment minimizes outages and ensures compliance with environmental regulations. They also compile evaluate and report statistical data related to plant performance.
Location: Wilsonville Alabama United States
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain water treatment plants.
- Assist in maintaining an onsite sewage treatment plant.
- Perform analytical testing of boiler water and scrubber absorber chemistry.
- Calibrate and maintain related equipment.
- Perform minor maintenance activities such as lubrication.
- Perform Hazmat team member duties including respirator qualification.
- Unload hazardous liquid and gaseous chemicals.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- BS degree in Chemistry or a related field with a minimum of 12 semester hours in chemistry.
- Must be able to recognize changes in color for titrations.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Prior experience and knowledge of boiler/water analysis.
- Previous work experience in a water treatment plant.
- Knowledge and experience in the production of deionized water.
- Experience and competency in the use calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation/equipment.
- Knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques.
- Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Special Considerations:
- This position requires call-outs and overtime as needed.
Scheduling:
- Must be available for evening or night shifts overtime weekend and holiday work as required.
