Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Traffic Control

Reports to: Principal

Purpose: The Traffic Control position supports the safe and efficient flow of school-related traffic on and around school campuses. This position ensures that the highway in front of the school the school driveways and parking areas operate in an orderly manner to protect students staff and visitors.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Successful completion of district-required training in traffic control and safety.
  • Ability to pass the required background check.
  • Ability to stand and direct traffic.
  • Ability to use hand signals signage or flags effectively to communicate directions to drivers.
  • Ability to react quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.

Working Days/Time:

  • 2025-2026 Camden County Schools Calendar Year when students are in school.
  • Monday - Friday (Morning: 7:30 a.m. to 8:20 a.m.; Afternoon: 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.)

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic traffic control practices and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with drivers staff and community members.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under stressful or confrontational situations.
  • Skill in observing and reporting safety concerns accurately and promptly.
  • Ability to follow established policies procedures and directions from supervisors.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Enforces district-established traffic flow procedures and communicates courteously with drivers to ensure compliance.
  • Observes and reports unsafe driving behavior or violations of school traffic rules to supervisors and/or law enforcement as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with school administrators and transportation staff to implement traffic safety plans.
  • Maintains visibility and professional conduct while on duty serving as a positive representative of the school system.
  • Completes any required district training in traffic control procedures safety standards and emergency response.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat cold rain and snow.
  • Work hours are morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
  • The position requires standing for extended periods and maintaining situational awareness in busy environments.
