To perform scientific research specifically research activities relating to data acquisition and analysis and to report results ready for publication and/or use for grant applications as appropriate. Research will focus on the application and dissemination of the dynamics of glasses using beta detected nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
Organizational Status
Reports to Prof Andrew MacFarlane Principal Investigator Department of Chemistry.
Work Performed
Explores the application and dissemination of research findings involving glasses using NMR techniques.
Develops and implements data collection and related protocols required.
Analyses data collection to further assess dynamic impacts on glasses and by extension gain further insight and reproducibility of findings including commercialization potential.
Prepares writes and edits reports and the writing of materials for presentation and final publication including any graphs or tables as appropriate;
Prepares jointly with supervisor manuscripts for submission to scientific journals for publication.
Contributes to the development of all research related documentation.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Makes decision relating to the integrity of the data and accuracy of data reporting for use in publication and grant applications. Errors in judgement or decisions could negative impact on the faculty members research program and by extension the department at UBC.
Supervision Received
Works under general direction. Work is reviewed only against achievement of project objectives and deliverables.
Supervision Given
May oversee students as appropriate.
Working Conditions
Works in a dry lab research environment within Dr. MacFarlanes research program space.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require a graduate degree.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Physics or Chemistry.
Experience with molecular dynamics methods is required.
Superior technical writing skills for different audiences and publication.
Good interpersonal skills and work habits such as organization and attention to detail are required.
