Description

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Development and Services the Assistant Dean/Executive Director of Housing Residential Life and Student Conduct responsible for providing vision leadership and direction for a comprehensive Housing and Residence Life program that currently serves nearly 1200 residential students. The Assistant Dean/Executive Director of Housing is responsible for a $6 million budget and the oversight of six full-time staff and over 30 student staff members. The Assistant Dean/Executive Director Housing is responsible for establishing and implementing short and long-range organizational goals objectives strategic plans policies and operating procedures monitoring and evaluating programmatic and operational effectiveness and enacting changes required for continuous improvement. The Assistant Dean/Executive Director of Housing must be a visionary and highly collaborative leader with the ability to facilitate organizational change to adapt to the changing needs of students. The Dean/Executive Director of Housing will also be innovative possess a passion for the student experience and is responsible for all crisis management protocols and decisions.

The Assistant Dean and Executive Housing leads the charge and fosters collaborative partnerships with faculty and staff ensuring best practices in residence life housing services and efforts that support the academic mission of the university. The Dean/Executive Director of Housing provides innovative leadership for ongoing critical Housing and Residence Life development management and stewardship priorities. This includes:

Projecting occupancy and overseeing the occupancy plan to achieve maximum results.

Maintaining a culture laid essential practices that put student safety and security first. Providing leadership support for expansion and continuous improvement efforts of Living Learning Communities.

Planning for appropriate maintenance and replacement of existing structures and engaging in planning for new construction as needed.

The Assistant Dean will serve as a university hearing officer and investigator for the student conduct process. They will oversee and coordinate departmental sanctioning efforts. They will serve as the primary liaison with Housing & Residence Life but will work collaboratively with other key constituents. The Assistant Dean will play a key role in training of the student faculty and staff and will conduct pool members as well as the individual hearing officers. This role requires a highly motivated and experienced professional with a strong commitment to student success and a passion for creating a vibrant residential community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:

Providing overall vision and direction for the Residence Life program including developing and implementing policies and procedures.

  • Staff Supervision:

Recruiting selecting training supervising and evaluating professional and student staff members within the Residential Life department.

  • Student Conduct Management:

Overseeing the student conduct system including reviewing cases conducting investigations and facilitating hearings.

  • Community Development:

Creating a welcoming and inclusive residential community that supports student learning and development.

  • Crisis Management:

Leading crisis response efforts within the residential system and participating in on-call duty rotations.

  • Collaboration:

Working with various campus partners including academic advising student health and public safety to ensure student well-being.

  • Budget Management:

Overseeing the departments budget and ensuring responsible financial practices.

  • Assessment:

Developing and implementing assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of Residence Life programs and initiatives.

  • Policy Development:

Contributing to the development and implementation of university policies related to housing residential life and student conduct.

  • Liaison:

Serving as a liaison between Residence Life and other university departments as well as external vendors.

  • Student Advocacy:

Supporting students and student groups in effectively managing conflict and promoting a positive residential experience.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Student Personnel Higher Education or a related field is typically required.
  • Significant experience in Residence Life Student Affairs or a related area is necessary.
  • Demonstrated experience in student conduct management and conflict resolution.
  • Strong leadership supervision and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of student development theory social justice and diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Qualifications

    This position requires a bachelors degree in higher education/ college student personnel or related field and a minimum of three years of full-time progressive professional experience working in Residential Life Housing or closely related experience. The successful candidate must exercise high levels of discretion independent judgment and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with a large number of University community members and offices.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS include: Masters degree and significant professional experience with progressively increasing administrative responsibilities in student affairs at a high management level; experience in managing overall operations of residential life and housing including policy development marketing managing staff budgeting billing damage assessments safety mentoring students implementing safety programs alcohol awareness programs educational programming recreational and social programs and orientation programs. The candidate must have a strong vision for a purposeful residential life program and demonstrate resourcefulness towards achieving/implementing such vision. Experience in student living-learning communities and assessment; a demonstrated understanding of how to promote student learning and academic success in a residential life environment; and demonstrated skills of leadership and communication sensitivity to individual differences and an interest and enthusiasm for working with students.
