About Focus On Renewal:

The Focus On Renewal Sto-Rox Neighborhood Corporation (FOR) was founded in 1969. FOR founders led a group of mobilized citizens and community activists to create an umbrella organization for much needed social services now ranging from food security nutrition early-childhood education support groups and mental health to arts programs for ages and small business incubation. FOR has now grown to house 30 staff at four locations throughout McKees Rocks and Stowe Township. The Organization provides support to the people in our neighborhood through programs for all ages designed to develop resilient contributing members of a thriving community. We work with a wide range of partners to ensure high quality programming is accessible to all 13000 residents of the Sto-Rox Community.

About the position:

Summary

The Community Engagement Specialist uses their talents to support the Positive Parenting Family Center Program in achieving the goals and completing the tasks associated with community engagement efforts. This position provides support to other programs within Positive Parenting responsible for providing information and referrals to community services to the families. The Community Engagement Specialist will guide and implement Positive Parenting Programs efforts to engage community stakeholders. The Community Engagement Specialist will work with community members to participate in outreach events/meetings to promote the Positive Parenting Program.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Learn and maintain knowledge of resources available to Positive Parenting Program families
  • Provide expertise in the development organization administration and execution of special events and keeping pre and post event details
  • Conduct outreach and recruitment
  • Connect with community service providers/neighborhood associations to ensure referral and support to Positive Parenting Program families
  • Strive to ensure access to information referrals linkages and advocacy for families/community services
  • Coordinate program participation in community events such as meetings canvassing and fairs
  • Serve as a line of communication between the program and the community
  • Attend community meetings on behalf of the Positive Parenting Program
  • Create and develop systems to distribute information to community residents such as flyers and newsletters
  • Author social media content that educates entertains and informs stakeholders of program services/activities
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of the Parent Advisory Council
  • Assist and support the Family Engagement Specialist in their job duties when necessary
  • Maintain files and complete all paperwork/reporting as required
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all families within the community and throughout the agency
  • Attend job related training and required staff meetings/events

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Be creative and engaging
  • Possess effective organizational and multitasking skills
  • Possess proficiency in the use of personal computing and other modern office technology
  • Able to problem solve
  • Able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Apps or willing to learn
  • Have strong interpersonal and written and verbal communications skills
  • Possess a valid drivers license and reliable transportation including associated proof of insurance
  • Possess Act 33 Act 34 and FBI clearances prior to employment


Preferred Qualifications

  • Resident of the Sto-Rox neighborhood preferred.
Salary Description
17.25/hr
