TITLE: In School Suspension (ISS) Monitor
REPORTS TO: Principal
SUPERVISES: N/A
TERM: 10 months
JOB GOAL: The In-School Suspension (ISS) Monitor is responsible for supervising and managing students assigned to in-school suspension. The ISS Monitor ensures that students remain on task follow behavioral expectations and complete academic work during their suspension period in a structured and supportive environment. This role supports student accountability and promotes positive behavior to encourage academic and behavioral growth.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:
- High school diploma or GED required associate or bachelors degree preferred.
- Experience working with students in an educational or behavioral setting preferred.
- Strong communication interpersonal and classroom management skills.
- Ability to remain calm patient and consistent in a structured disciplinary environment.
- Ability to build rapport and set clear boundaries with students.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and communication.
- May involve prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Requires regular interaction with students staff and administrators.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise and monitor students assigned to ISS ensuring a safe orderly and respectful environment.
- Maintain clear and consistent expectations for student behavior.
- Distribute and collect class assignments from teachers and ensure students stay on task.
- Provide basic academic assistance and redirection as needed.
- Document student attendance behavior and progress during ISS assignments.
- Communicate with school administrators teachers and counselors as directed.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and disciplinary matters.
- Assist in the development of behavioral support strategies when appropriate.
- Enforce school policies rules and procedures consistently.
- Support restorative practices conflict resolution or character-building activities when applicable.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of personnel.
