UAMS Northwest Arkansas Graduate Medical Education (GME) Sports Medicine Fellowship Program is seeking a licensed and certified Athletic Trainer to serve as a Clinical Care Coordinator to join our Team. This dual-role position combines clinical care responsibilities with administrative support to ensure compliance with ACGME accreditation standards. The Athletic Trainer will provide hands-on patient care while managing programmatic and operational requirements essential to the success of the fellowship position is crucial in enhancing the quality of the fellowship program by bridging the gap between patient care and administrative functions. By ensuring compliance with accreditation standards the Athletic Trainer helps maintain the programs credibility and reputation.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors in Athletic Training plus one (1) year of athletic training experience
- Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) through BOC (Board of Certification)
- Arkansas State Licensure (or ability to obtain before start date)
- Teaching certification in secondary education or eligibility to obtain one
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with casting/splinting
- Masters Degree in Athletic Training
- TAGME Certified
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Licensed and certified Athletic Trainer with a strong clinical background.
- Proficiency in evaluating and managing sports-related injuries and illnesses.

- Ability to balance clinical and administrative responsibilities effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients athletes and interdisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with ACGME accreditation standards is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties
- Provides appropriate care for athletes and patients. Recognize prevent and perform evaluations within a clinic setting initiate appropriate treatments and recommend appropriate follow up care. Primary direct care responsibilities include the following: assessing patients gathering and documenting intake information assisting physicians with procedures including blood draws casting bracing and DME sizing/fitting and arranging other care needs for patients.
- Patient and athlete education and advocacy. Communicate effectively with patients parents trainers and other healthcare providers. Acts as liaison between patients needing medical treatment/ therapy services and healthcare providers. Ensures the patient and family understand the treatment plan.
- Perform required administrative duties related to clinical tasks. Primary administrative responsibilities include the following: maintaining documentation of patients within EHR system including documentation of any necessary follow up scheduling of patients obtaining insurance authorizations collaboration with physicians trainers and the interprofessional team to help coordinate care. Duties also include keeping clinic areas neat organized and safe assist with supply ordering and maintain organization and inventory of supplies/ equipment. Assists with the referral and scheduling of athletes and patients to appropriate healthcare providers.
Administrative duties GME Sports Medicine Fellowship Program
- Support day-to-day operations and compliance requirements of the Sports Medicine Fellowship program.
- Manage and maintain data and documentation using the following tools:
- New Innovations data management software
- ACGME WebADS accreditation data management software
- Video conferencing Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams
- Thalamus GME
- Microsoft Office Suite Word PowerPoint Excel (intermediate level proficiency)
- Record-keeping and documentation for program accreditation and internal tracking
- Communication with residents faculty hospital administration the Education Office and the GME/DIO Office
- Schedule coordination for residents faculty and program leadership
- Meeting organization documentation and minute-taking
- Event planning and coordination for orientations graduations and resident social events
- Support recruitment of residents and assist the Program Director in faculty recruitment
- Solicit community support for program needs (in compliance with UAMS policies)
- Provide emotional and logistical support to fellows and residents
- Balance multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced academic clinical environment
May perform other duties as assigned
