What You Will Do:
Position is hospital onsite based in Banning CA Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM PT.
Under the general direction of the Health Information Manager may have full responsibility for the Birth Certificate process for all new babies born at the hospital; discharge paperwork received daily- assembly scanning indexing and maintaining the charts of discharged patients.
The Medical Records Clerk will interact with patients families visitors and significant addition he/she has frequent interaction with physicians and other staff members. Therefore he/she must be knowledgeable of the pscychosocial and emotional needs of adults and geriatric persons and be able to interact effectively with these groups.

In addition to the general Health Information Systems Clerk job duties also responsible for the completion of the Birth Certificates for all babies born in the hospital along with interviewing mothers and families visitors and medical staff. Therefore must be knowledgeable in the psychosocial and emotional needs of minors (mothers under18) and adults persons and must be able to interact effectively with these groups.

Reviews census to determine when babies are born. Schedules with OB and mother to interview for birth certificate.
Interviews patient to obtain additional information as needed to complete certification processing. When appropriate offers information regarding POP (Paternity Opportunity
Program) for parents to fill out.
Prepares certificate on the State of California Computer System - Automated Vital Statistics System (AVSS) obtains appropriate signatures and files within the State mandated time.
Responsible for Paternity Opportunity Program program form completion from birth mother and mailing.
Enters birth information onto the State of California Birth Registrar computer system.
Generates upon patient request the proof of birth.
Provides information to patient regarding official sources for copies of certified birth certificates.
Assembles all patient discharged paperwork received daily stamps the providers names to the paperwork scans and indexes all discharged paperwork within 1 day after discharge.
Responsible for accurately processing of each discharge checking for correct names and account numbers on each document.
Must maintain productivity in following the assignment schedule distributed by the Manager each month.
Demonstrates ability to utilize all fields in the SunComm Allscripts computer program and related applications on the computer system.
Sends copies of medical records with appropriate authorization as requested.
Process release of information requests as needed for coverage.
Scans loose reports or other medical record documents using established systems.
Answers telephone inquiries takes messages and communicates messages to appropriate personnel.
Maintains the strictest confidentiality of patient/physician/other information.
Enthusiastically participates in the hospital-wide performance improvement program as directed by Department Director.
Meets hospital continuing education requirements by enhancing professional growth and development through participation in educational programs current literature in-service meetings and workshops as well as association groups

Performs other duties or special projects as assigned by department Director.
What You Will Need:
High School Diploma / GED or 3 years of relevant equivalent experience in lieu of diploma / GED.
0-2 years working within the following sectors: healthcare insurance business finance or customer service.
Working knowledge can be of the following: healthcare offices billing coding follow-up finance accounting or customer service related responsibilities.
What Would Be Nice to Have:
Medical terminology a plus
PC skills in a Windows environment. Knowledge and utilization of desktop applications to include Word and Excel.
1 year experience working in a Healthcare or Customer Service setting.
Ability to initiate and follow through on projects and work independently with minimal supervision.
