Job Description

The Ocean Import Agent is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of ocean freight import operations. This role ensures smooth handling of shipments from origin to destination compliance with international trade regulations and timely delivery to clients. The ideal candidate possesses strong knowledge of shipping documentation customs procedures and international logistics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage ocean import shipments ensuring timely and efficient transportation from overseas suppliers to destination ports.

  • Prepare verify and process all required import documentation including Bills of Lading Commercial Invoices Packing Lists Certificates of Origin and other regulatory paperwork.

  • Liaise with shipping lines freight forwarders customs brokers and inland carriers to ensure smooth transit of goods.

  • Monitor shipment progress track containers and provide regular updates to clients regarding status delays or issues.

  • Ensure compliance with international shipping regulations customs requirements and company policies.

  • Resolve discrepancies claims or issues related to damaged lost or delayed cargo.

  • Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams for proper handling and storage of imported goods.

  • Maintain accurate records of shipments documentation and correspondence for audit and reporting purposes.

  • Provide guidance and support to clients regarding shipping options costs and customs clearance procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Logistics Supply Chain Management International Business or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of X years of experience in ocean import operations freight forwarding or international logistics.

  • In-depth knowledge of international shipping procedures INCOTERMS and customs regulations.

  • Proficient in shipment tracking systems freight management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong communication negotiation and problem-solving skills.

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.

Competencies:

  • Client-focused with excellent relationship management skills.

  • Analytical and detail-oriented with a strong sense of responsibility.

  • Knowledge of risk management in international shipping and import operations.

Career Progression:

  • Successful performance may lead to roles such as Senior Import Coordinator Import Manager or Logistics Manager.
