Job Description

THE POSITION

New hires in the Parking Lot Supervisorclassification may be eligible for one-time recruitment and retention bonuses totaling up to $5000 during the first year of employment.

The Department of Public Works Parking Services Division is seeking a Parking Lot Supervisor with the ability to serve as the front-line supervisory representative of the City of Sacramentos off-street parking operations. This position requires consistent application of revenue control practices related to revenue collection security and compliance; strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with both staff and constituents; and leadership qualities to perform as a lead representative of a major front-line operation within the Parking Services Division.This position is responsible for professionally written performance evaluations and may be required to perform the duties of a Parking Lot Attendant or Senior Parking Lot Attendant as needed including working shifts during weekends holidays nights and in inclement weather.

IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT

The ideal candidate will be adept with both administrative tasks and field operations including the ability to issue parking payment notices respond to complaints and inquiries perform investigations into parking facility issues de-escalate confrontational situations and provide front-line advisement and support to parking lot staff members.

DEFINITION

To supervise coordinate and assign work relating to parking facility operations including the collection and depositing of parking revenues.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions assigned to the class of Parking Lot Supervisor are responsible for the operation of one or more municipal off-street parking facilities for all operational hours. Positions in this class are distinguished from those in the Senior Parking Lot Attendant class by the broader range of supervisory responsibilities over parking lot personnel and facilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

General supervision is provided by the Assistant Parking Operations Manager assigned to off-street parking operations. Responsibilities include the direct and indirect supervision of Senior Parking Lot Attendants and Parking Lot Attendants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Depending upon assignment duties may include but are not limited to the following:

- Supervise schedule and coordinate the operation of one or more municipal parking facilities.
- Record count deposit and insure the security of all collected revenues from parking lot facilities.
- Review parking lot operations and oversee the efficient utilization of staff and equipment.
- Inspect parking lots and insure the proper correction of problems relating to their physical conditions.
- Recommend improvements to operations procedures or scheduling.
- Perform minor repairs as necessary on parking lot equipment.
- Provide information to and respond to inquiries from the public.
- Coordinate parking lot operations with other Parking Lot Supervisors.
- Instruct train supervise and evaluate subordinate personnel.
- Prepare periodic reports regarding parking lot operations and revenues.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

- Parking lot operations including revenue collection and parking ticket procedures.
- Standard bookkeeping practices and methods.
- Principles and techniques of personnel supervision.
- Basic arithmetic and calculation techniques.

Ability to:

- Supervise train and evaluate subordinate personnel.
- Schedule and coordinate parking lot operations.
- Maintain accurate records and insure the security of collected revenues.
- Identify and correct problems which develop in parking facilities or related equipment.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other City employees.
- Develop and prepare accurate revenue reports as required.

Experience and Education:

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be two years of experience in parking lot operations including significant experience in the supervision of other Parking Lot Attendants.

An applicant with a college degree obtained outside the United States must have education records evaluated by acredentialsevaluation service.Evaluation of education records will be due at time of appointment.


SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Driver License:

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment. Loss of the Class C License is cause for discipline. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
