Position Description
The City of Seattle is seeking to hiretwojourneyman carpentersto perform carpentry work in the construction maintenance alteration and repair of buildings building equipment and facilities.
In this roleyoullhave the opportunity to perform a broad scope of facility maintenance work including maintenance. repair alteration and construction. These positions require work under the general direction of the Carpenter Crew Chief and within a team of 30 members of skilled trades and administrative professionals.
ABOUT USTheDepartment of Finance and Administrative Services(FAS) is often the publics first interaction with the City of Seattleoperatingas a customer-focused front door thatassistswith everything from paying utilities or reporting a pothole to requesting public information or even adopting a new pet.
Job Responsibilities
Install andmaintaindoors electronic and manuallocksand other security hardware.
Alter repair and construct a variety of building structures such as walls partitions doorways window casings stairways and roofs.
Build and install cabinetsfurnitureand other fixturessuch as:soap-towel-toilet paper dispensers shelving bulletin boards whiteboards.
Design construct remodel repair and install cabinets. Install flooring ceiling and wall covering materials.
Estimate and requisition materials for work activities;maintainrecords of job time and materials used.
Operate power equipment such as saws jointers lathes sanders planers boring and mortising machines; clean sharpenmaintainand repair such equipment.
Read interpret and work from blueprints plans specifications and written instructions to complete work orderstimelyand within City building codes.
Build and install concrete forms; pour and finish concrete.
Assistin the design and development of plans for new construction depending on the work assignments.
Read track and input work orders in the Citys work order management system.
May perform work in other trade skills.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of carpentry trade experience under the direction of a journey level carpenter
OR
Completion of an accepted carpentry apprenticeship program; and
Valid Washington State drivers license or ability to obtain one by the start date.
(Or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent backgroundto perform the work of the class.)
Youllfeel most prepared for this role you have a broad scope of journeyman maintenance carpentry and related trades knowledge and experience including locksmith experience are able to diagnose issues and solve problems and have strong mechanical skills. This skill level is typically gained through completion of apprenticeship program and at least three years of journey level experience.
Desired :We hope you have ten (10) years of recent experience as a journey level Carpenter inmaintenance or commercial construction. We hope that you have finish carpentry and cabinet making skills. You know how to use a smartphone for communication email texting photos Microsoft Teams google maps and for research. You are comfortable using a computer for email and for looking things up.
Work Environment/Physical DemandsThis position requires full-time onsite work.
Required to standwalkor bend for extended periods of time.
Required to lift objects weighingmorethan50 pounds.
Work in confined spaces or at heights from ladders and scaffolds
May require handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances.
Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
Mustcomply withPPE standards and all safety guidelines.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
May be called after-hours for emergency repairs.
Additional Information
This position is classified as a Classified Civil Service regularfull-time.It is Civil Service represented FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime. The full salary range for this position is $49.34 - $49.34 per hour.
