This position is open to current Colorado residents only.

The Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (CMHH-FL) is one of two state hospitals serving our community. The vision of CMHH-FL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to persons with complex serious and persistent mental illness within the resources available. Our mission is to support those individuals in achieving their recovery goals and reaching their full potential. CMHH-FL provides inpatient treatment to adult patients generally between the ages of 18-59. The hospital currently has 138 adult inpatient beds and over six treatment milieus that serve civil and forensic individuals. Medical services occupational therapy neuropsychological-rehabilitation services and trauma-informed care services are available for all patients throughout the hospital.

Central Medical Supply (CMS) Department functions as the centralized administrative and logistical hub for managing medical supply and equipment operations across the hospital. The unit is responsible for processing supply orders receiving stocking maintaining accurate inventory records coordinating the receipt and distribution of sterile and non-sterile medical items and supporting documentation related to safety inspections and operational readiness of medical equipment. The unit also tracks vendor communications and maintenance scheduling for medical equipment to ensure continuity of patient care. The Sterile Processing Department (SPD) operating within CMS requires oversight of sterilization schedules service documentation and compliance tracking with regulatory standards (e.g. AAMI AORN Joint Commission OSHA). The unit provides administrative coordination with external vendors for equipment maintenance and repair needs and supports the certification process for reprocessing and sterilization equipment.

Description of Job

This is a new Administrator II position Biomedical Equipment Technician that is being established to support the departments ongoing FTE shortage and reduce reliance on contracted administrative support for equipment inspections maintenance coordination and vendor communication. The position will assist the Central Medical Supply Sterile Processing and Material Handling operations by supporting administrative functions related to durable medical equipment tracking repair scheduling service documentation and regulatory compliance. This role will collaborate with the Central Medical Supply Technician and report to the Medical Services Department to ensure operational support across equipment and supply workflows.
Other duties are as follows:

Oversight of all Durable Medical Equipment:

  • Provides administrative coordination and logistical support for all hospital durable medical equipment (DME) needs to ensure compliance efficiency and patient safety.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact and system administrator for the hospitals Durable Medical Equipment program.
  • Responsibilities include facilitating the selection setup delivery and retrieval of equipment such as wheelchairs oxygen tanks CPAPs and hospital beds in collaboration with clinical leadership and CMS/SPD staff.
  • Schedules and tracks inspections maintenance and repairs to ensure all equipment is operational certified and in compliance with applicable regulations. Developing and maintaining systems for equipment life cycle tracking ensuring compliance with accreditation safety and equipment funding source requirements.
  • Manages detailed electronic records for all hospital equipment including inventory levels maintenance schedules and certification dates while monitoring expiration timelines and tracking documentation for regulatory compliance including Medicare/Medicaid requirements.
  • Assists with procurement processes coordinates with vendors for repairs or rentals ensures proper billing support and obtains necessary supervisory approvals for equipment purchases.
  • Coordinates with procurement personnel to ensure timely acquisitions of equipment in alignment with budgetary constraints and clinical needs.
  • Supports infection control protocols by coordinating equipment cleaning and handling provides assistance across departments for equipment-related needs and contributes to general CMS operations including material handling.
  • Requires frequent lifting or moving of equipment and availability for urgent or emergency support ensuring timely and safe access to essential medical equipment throughout the facility.
Medical Equipment Electrical Safety Checks/Weight Scale Calibrations:
  • Supports the safety functionality and regulatory compliance of electrically powered medical equipment and integrated scales throughout the facility. This includes coordination of inspections calibrations and servicing of hospital-owned and rented equipment.
  • Ensures all devices meet internal safety protocols manufacturer specifications and external regulatory standards (e.g. FDA Joint Commission). Responsibilities include maintaining documentation supporting procurement decisions assisting with vendor coordination and training staff on equipment use and maintenance procedures.
  • Develops preventative maintenance procedures and checklists in alignment with manufacturer specifications and clinical feedback.
Furniture and Upholstery Inspection & Repair Needs:
  • Responsible for the hands-on inspection repair and maintenance of patient-use furniture and medical upholstery to ensure that items such as hospital beds recliners wheelchairs and mattresses remain safe functional cleanable and in compliance with healthcare safety standards.
  • Identifying visible wear or structural issues performing upholstery repairs using antimicrobial materials and coordinating repairs with minimal impact on patient care. All work is documented for regulatory compliance and service tracking
Medical Supply Management and Material Handling:
  • Supports the Central Medical Supply (CMS) Technician in the efficient management tracking and distribution of medical supplies and durable medical equipment (DME) throughout the facility. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate inventory records fulfilling supply requests conducting routine physical counts preparing return shipments and promptly reporting discrepancies or shortages to the supervisor.
  • Receives and inspects incoming shipments verifies contents against purchase orders and stores materials in designated locations to optimize accessibility rotation and space utilization.
  • Operates handling equipment such as carts and pallet jacks and ensures a clean organized and hazard-free CMS environment.
  • Ensures that all received equipment is inventoried inspected and prepared prior to deployment; assists with facility-wide audits; monitors expiration timelines to ensure compliance with infection control safety and regulatory standards; and provides hands-on support for delivering supplies and equipment to treatment teams across the hospital.
  • Provides real-time logistical support to decentralized units helps update the CMS catalog and addresses equipment and supply issues through hands-on troubleshooting and collaborative communication with treatment teams and clinical staff.
Other Duties as Assigned:
  • May provide cross-coverage or serve as backup for other areas within the Medical Services Section as operationally necessary. Other duties as assigned

Experience Only:

  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position

OR

Education and Experience:
  • A combination of related education in Biomedical/Healthcare settings and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to five (5) years

Special Qualifications:
  • ACI Certification for the Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Biomedical equipment repair testing and preventative maintenance in a healthcare or clinical setting
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving equipment performance issues in compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Familiarity with sterilization equipment patient care devices and related clinical technologies
  • Exposure to inventory control or supply management processes in a medical or hospital environment
  • Willingness and ability to provide backup support for Central Medical Supply and other Medical Services areas as needed
  • Active Biomedical Equipment Technician certification or license (required)
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills

  • Working knowledge of medical equipment regulatory compliance (e.g. The Joint Commission FDA NFPA CDPHE manufacturer guidelines) and ability to ensure all biomedical equipment preventative maintenance is completed on time and remains within compliance schedules without lapses or expirations.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals schematics and technical diagrams
  • Customer service skills with the ability to work directly with clinical staff to resolve equipment concerns
  • Time management skills to balance preventive maintenance schedules with urgent repairs
  • Flexibility and adaptability to provide backup support for Central Medical Supply operations and other Medical Services areas as needed
