No to Violence is Australias peak body for individuals and organisations that work with men that use violence. We provide training sector development and advocacy across the sector. We operate the Mens Referral Service providing a counselling service and referral pathways directly to men who use violence. As a pro-feminist organisation women and children are at the centre of what we do by ending mens use of family violence families individuals and communities are safer.

About the role

Type: Permanent Full Time (1 FTE) this role will require some out of standard office hours work when needs arise

Classification: SCHADS Award Level 6.1 plus Superannuation

Location: Remote and flexible working options available

No to Violence is looking for a dynamic Media and Advocacy Advisor to join our purpose-driven organisation and passionate Advocacy Policy and Research team. This is an exciting opportunity to:

  • lead national media engagement to end the perpetration of family violence
  • shape complex issues into compelling stories to influence government media and public policy
  • drive strategic advocacy and campaigns to create real change.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

Media:

  • Creating and delivering impactful media strategies
  • Shaping public discourse on domestic and family violence
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with external media organisations and journalists
  • Providing expert media advice to the CEO Executive Team and Board
  • Monitoring media coverage and public commentary to lead responses to emerging issues
  • Maintaining and developing NTVs key message matrix

Advocacy and Campaigns:

  • Supporting in identifying and implementing advocacy strategies and campaigns including creating media appearances and sector collaborations
  • Delivering expert communication guidance to support the positioning and dissemination of our advocacy policy and research outputs

Events:

  • Collaborating with NTVs Promotion and Marketing team for advocacy-related events including public forums policy roundtables and campaign launches
  • Drafting speaking notes event summaries and promotional materials to support NTVs presence at events
  • Attending relevant events to represent NTV gather insights and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders

About you

You will have:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a proven ability to develop relationships with journalists partner organisations and political media advisers
  • High-level organisational skills to manage multiple priorities meet deadlines and respond quickly to emerging issues
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills particularly in relation to complex social issues
  • Political acumen and sound judgement in handling sensitive topics
  • Strong attention to detail

Experience and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated experience in media social media advocacy or public affairs roles preferably within the not-for-profit sector or government
  • Understanding of the Australian political media and policy environment particularly in relation to gender-based violence family violence or social justice
  • Extensive experience providing high-level communications advice and crisis support to CEOs executive teams and boards
  • Experience preparing media releases opinion pieces briefings and other strategic communications
  • Proven ability to support advocacy campaigns and policy communication
  • Familiarity with the role of peak bodies and an understanding of how to amplify member and community voices through advocacy
  • Knowledge of inclusive trauma-informed and culturally responsive communication practices
