Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. This individual will play a critical role in the financial reporting process overseeing general ledger management job cost tracking payroll administration and ensuring compliance with GAAP and relevant tax regulations. The Senior Accountant will also contribute to month-end and year-end closing audit support and tax filings. This is a hands-on role that requires a strong background in accounting principles excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple financial functions effectively.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and review monthly quarterly and annual financial statements including balance sheets and income statements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal financial policies.
  • Accurately post expenses related to job costs such as labor materials subcontractor charges and overhead ensuring proper allocation to each project.
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Prepare and post journal entries to reflect financial transactions adjustments and accruals.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts analyzing variances and trends to support strategic decision-making.
  • Perform credit card transaction postings and reconciliation.
  • Ensure that all entries are recorded according to accounting standards and company policies.
  • Oversee and maintain the depreciation schedule for all fixed assets ensuring accurate recording of depreciation in accordance with accounting policies and tax regulations.
  • Oversee payroll processing for all employees ensuring timely and accurate payment in compliance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Post payroll journal entries to Sage including recording wages deductions and employer liabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with federal state and local payroll tax regulations including preparing payroll tax filings (e.g. 941 state unemployment and other related reports).
  • Assist in both internal and external audits providing necessary documentation and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Accurate processing of accounts payable invoices and vendor payments.
  • Prepare and process tax filings including 1099 forms and other required documentation ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory deadlines.
  • Help streamline the integration of new financial systems or software if/when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Six (6) to ten (10) years of professional Accounting or Finance work history.
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of general ledger accounting including journal entries accruals job costing financial reporting and reconciliations.
  • Experience in financial audits and tax filings.
  • Payroll audit and processing experience.
  • Month-end and year-end close experience.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g. Sage 100 Contract Procore Quickbooks Paychex etc...)
  • Proactive self-starter achieving high productivity with strong attention to detail; ability to work independently with little instruction; coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks set deadlines and complete projects in a timely manner is required.
  • Positive tenacious attitude.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes unpredictable environment; works well under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality and discretion.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Organized with a proven ability to juggle multiple projects at once.
  • Experience managing complex project/event logistics.
  • Some local travel up to 25%.
  • Must possess a valid California Drivers License.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to comfortably work with software and apps on a desktop iPhone and/or iPad.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel (including data manipulation and advanced functions).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written).
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information to effectively execute and achieve results.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Proven experience working as an Accountant or Accounting professional or a similar position in the accounting department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to stand walk and sit for extended periods of time in a standard office work environment. The position also requires the ability to lift up to 20 lbs. unaided.
