About the Company:

Alpine Software founded in 1994 and based in Pittsford NY develops and sells leading SaaS products to fire departments serving over 700 customers primarily across the US. Our flagship product RedNMX offers a comprehensive suite of fire department management tools including dispatching call reporting personnel management inventory management and mobile tracking.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Full Stack Mobile and Web Developer to join our team. This individual will be responsible for developing and managing both mobile and web applications with an emphasis on the mobile development side initially. As we transition from a fat client-based software platform to a more modern web-based and mobile-friendly software solution the candidate will play a key role in building scalable reliable and high-quality team.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable with backend and frontend interactions managing them with minimal oversight. They will also have the opportunity to help build and manage an offshore team of developers over time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full Stack Development:
    • Develop and maintain both mobile (iOS/Android) and web applications.
    • Ensure seamless integration between the front-end UI and backend systems.
    • Collaborate closely with other team members to deliver features and functionality for both platforms.
  • Mobile Development:
    • Focus on mobile app development (native or hybrid).
    • Preference for candidates with experience in mobile-first design and development.
    • Familiarity with mobile frameworks such as Titanium SK React Native is a plus.
  • Backend and Frontend Communication:
    • Have a strong understanding of how the backend communicates with the front-end UI managing API integrations and ensuring the system works smoothly.
    • Handle complex back-end logic and front-end integration without requiring constant oversight.
  • Software Transition and Migration:
    • Aid in the transition of legacy fat client-based software to a more modern scalable and mobile-friendly platform.
    • Analyze and resolve technical debt and legacy issues and help with the ongoing modernization of the software.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Over time help build and manage an offshore team of mobile and web developers.
    • Provide mentorship guidance and leadership in both technical and team-building aspects.
  • Self-Sufficient Problem-Solving:
    • Solve problems with limited documentation and resources.
    • Be proactive in discovering diagnosing and fixing issues across the entire stack.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams including product managers designers and quality assurance to deliver robust scalable solutions.
    • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Strong experience with mobile and web application development with a preference for mobile development.
    • 10 years of experience with web technologies including HTML CSS JavaScript and modern frameworks (React Angular etc.).
    • Familiarity with backend technologies like Go Ruby on Rails or similar backend technologies.
    • Experience with API integration and management.
  • Mobile Development:
    • Expertise in mobile development with a preference for candidates with experience in Titanium SDK React Native or similar mobile development frameworks.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of mobile and web application architecture including frontend and backend communication.
    • Solid understanding of mobile and web development lifecycles version control systems and code deployment practices.
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Ability to work with minimal oversight and tackle challenges independently especially in situations with little documentation.
    • Familiarity with dealing with technical debt and legacy systems.
  • Leadership Potential:
    • Ability to lead and mentor other developers and build an effective offshore development team.
  • Education:
    • Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
