The Healthcare Specialist provides assistance to the physicians and practitioners with patient care administrative environmental and organization tasks. Uses approved protocols to assist the MD and NP in providing direct patient care relating to all aspects of Physician ambulatory treatment involving telephonecommunication and clinical care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Provides telephonic clinical information to patients and/or family members under the direction of the MD or Nurse Practitioner;
- Assists with patient follow up;
- Performs all documentation requirements in the EHR;
- Follow all health care privacy and safety rules and adheres to Dayton Physicians Core Values;
- Services a proportionate number of patient calls in comparison to fellow telephone staff;
- Schedules patients appropriately with the correct provider at the correct day and time;
- Performs procedures directed by physician and practitioners;
- Assists with preparatory activities such as taking and documenting vital signs including blood pressure pulse temperature height and weight and communicates abnormalities to physician or practitioner;
- Reviews and documents patient medical history including medications allergies and medical alerts documents in the electronic medical record;
- Collects orders and prepares lab specimens per providers order;
- Electronically submit prescriptions/refills to pharmacies as directed;
- Prepares patient rooms cleans/sterilizes instruments;
- Answer patient/pharmacy calls take messages for physicians relay lab/test results and instructions to patients as directed relay hospital consult information to physicians
- MU2/MIPS reporting as instructed;
- Follow all health care privacy and safety rules and adheres to Dayton Physicians Core Values;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and/ or Experience: - An active LPN license in the state(s) of practice.
- Current CPR certification if not it must be obtained within 60 days of employment and kept current thereafter.
General Skill Requirements:
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Microsoft Office including Word Excel and Outlook.
- Experience with a Practice Management system is preferred.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of this position to provide excellent customer service to both our internal and external stakeholders
Physical/ Mental Demands: Requires the ability to hear and speak clearly. This position is normally required to sit approximately ninety (90) percent of the day with an occasional need to walk bend twist and carry 5-10 pounds a distance up to four (4) feet. This position requires the ability to answer telephone calls transfer calls and work on the computer.
