About the role:
If youre a school leaver or currently studying at college and looking to progress to university this opportunity could be the ideal next step. Were looking for individuals who are passionate about software development and eager to gain hands-on experience while working towards a degree. As part of the role youll be supported through a Graduate Apprenticeship programme studying towards a BSc (Hons) in Software Development at Edinburgh Napier University.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build scalable maintainable software
Contribute to the development of enterprise systems that support our investments business
Work with modern tools and cloud platforms to deliver high-quality solutions
Learn and apply best practices in software engineering DevOps and automation
Participate in code reviews agile ceremonies and continuous improvement initiatives

What will I learn
As a Graduate Apprentice you will study for your degree alongside your job spending approximately 80% of your time in work and 20% in university. This unique combination offers an integrated experience where practical skills and knowledge gained during the university days can be embedded in your working practices. Skills learned directly in the workplace are aligned with and can be applied to coursework and assessment. This allows you to attain an honours degree in 4 years the same time as traditional full-time students.
You will study on a Graduate Apprenticeship degree programme towards a BSc (Hons) Software Development at Edinburgh Napier University. This Graduate Apprenticeship has a strong focus on the software development aspects of computing combining theory and practice. You will initially develop an understanding of the gathering storage retrieval and analysis of information. As you progress you will develop a critical understanding of the analysis design development testing evaluation and modification of reliable maintainable and high-quality software including real-time mobile and large scale enterprise systems.
As you progress through the course more of your job role will be used to gain credit towards your final award. This is captured in the Professional Practice modules which allow us to personalise your learning to ensure it meets your needs those of your employing organisation and the university.
Graduates of this GA will possess in-demand industry skills with a solid understanding of software development alongside key communication business and project management skills.
About the Candidate:
Four SQA Highers at Grade BBBB (or equivalent) including Maths Statistics or Physics. National 5 grade C in Maths/Lifeskills Maths/Applications of Mathsand English are required if not taken at Higher
A Foundation Apprenticeship in IT: Software Development at SCQF Level 6 plus two SQA Highers at Grade BB
A Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6-7 in an ICT/Digital related discipline
HNC or HND in an unrelated discipline plus Higher Maths Statistics or Physics at Grade B
Sufficient recognition of prior learning (RPL) through industry-related experience qualifications and informal learning. RPL applications are considered on an individual basis
A keen interest in AI automation and emerging technologies and how they can be applied to solve engineering challenges.
A keen interest in modern software engineering practices
A problem-solving mindset
Excellent communication skills capable of explaining concepts to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
A growth mindset constantly looking for opportunities to learn improve and stay ahead of industry trends

Our Technology teams are business aligned and operate based upon modern agile collaborative working practices. Teams are organised in tribes each of which support the products and processes associated with a particular part of our business. Each tribe comprises several squads each squad being responsible for evolving and maintaining a particular set of technology solutions.
We are seeking individuals to join our Aberdeen Investments Technology Team capable of working collaboratively who are curious and technically minded. As a member of a squad - which will typically be comprised of multiple disciplines - your time will be spent working closely with Product Owners Business Stakeholders and Technical Leads to understand business needs create user stories develop test and validate solutions and support deployments. You will be excited by the possibilities of cloud technologies automation and AI. Youll be supported by experienced mentors have access to technical training and be encouraged to experiment and grow.
