Duties and Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with 16 credits in Early Childhood Education coursework 3 of which must be infant/toddler related and 1 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for early childhood care and education (children birth to age 2); or equivalent education/training or experience.
  • Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in early childhood education demonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts terminology.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with early childhood education.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the early childhood education.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Hawaii State Registry certification reflecting ability to work as an Infant/Toddler Caregiver and an Assistant Teacher.
  • Related fields to include: Human Development Family Resources Human Ecology Social Work with specialty in working with children and families Elementary Education Psychology Special Education or Social Science.
  • At least 6 months of progressively responsible professional experience working with children between the ages of 2 to 5 years of age.
  • Ability to fulfill 20 hours of professional development activities annually.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Functional knowledge of food service rules and regulations USDA requirements and food handling experience.
  • Experience training and/or mentoring of adult learners.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible experience working directly with children between the ages of 2 years through 5 years old.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible experience working directly with children between 3 months to 2 years old.
  • Experience working with NAEYC accreditation requirements and standards.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • 30 credits of early childhood education or child development coursework with 9 credits focused on infant/toddler care and/or development.
  • Ability to work with basic computer software office applications (e.g. EXCEL PowerPoint Publisher photo/video etc.)
