National Grid is hiring a Lead Media and PR Specialist. This role will be based out of our Waltham Massachusetts or Boston Massachusetts offices. This is a hybrid role with a mix of office and remote work within National Grids service territory.
The Communications and Media Specialist for National Grids New England business will support the execution of media strategies and public relations initiatives to promote and protect the organizations reputation. The position will report to the Director of Strategic Communications and work closely with senior communications and business unit colleagues throughout National Grid. This role plays a key part in monitoring media coverage preparing materials and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. This role helps shape public perception and supports business continuity through timely accurate and engaging communications. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes initiative thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings strong attention to detail to every task.
Assist in the development and implementation of proactive media strategies aligned with business goals and reputational priorities serving as a strategic storyteller to shape compelling narratives.
Draft and edit press releases briefing documents talking points media responses and other communications content with clarity and precision.
Monitor news coverage flag emerging issues and compile media summaries for internal distribution.
Coordinate inbound media inquiries ensuring timely and professional responses.
Help plan and support media events site visits and interviews including logistics preparation materials and post-event follow-up.
Support the development and organization of a centralized repository of multimedia content by assisting in the collection cataloging and curation of audio and visual assets for use across communications channels.
Maintain up-to-date media contact lists press materials and PR trackers.
Collaborate with subject matter experts and internal teams to gather information for communications materials and media engagement.
Track and report on key media metrics and campaign performance.
Provide support during storm or emergency situations ensuring timely and effective messaging.
Stay current on industry trends media tools and best practices to continuously improve communications output.
Build and maintain relationships with key media contacts to facilitate effective communication and media coverage.
Bachelors degree in communications journalism public relations a related field or equivalent experience.
4 plus years of experience in a communications media relations or public affairs role in-house government agency or nonprofit.
Proven experience in corporate communications or media relations preferably within another regulated industry or a political environment.
Strategic thinker with ability to plan and develop key communications by interpreting internal and external trends and changes.
Exceptional writing and editing skills with a keen eye for attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities and deadlines interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Experience in managing communications during high-pressure situations.
Proven ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets.
Demonstrated initiative and self-direction in day-to-day responsibilities.
Familiarity with media monitoring tools and digital communications platforms.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (SharePoint Word Excel PowerPoint).

Salary
$121k - $142k a year
