The Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law at High Point University invites applicants to serve as its inaugural Assistant Director of Career partnership with the Director of Career Development the selected candidate will serve a pivotal role in helping HPU law students and alumni develop their professional identity and achieve their career goals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor Degree
- Significant relevant experience in career development legal education and/or the legal profession
- Willingness to contribute actively to the mission vision goals and objectives of the School and University
- Exceptional emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills sufficient to inspire and work effectively with School of Law faculty and staff and with a varied student and alumni population
- Excellent counseling listening and oral and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving project management marketing and networking skills
- Knowledge of the legal market and profession
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of information
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in law school career development or in the legal recruiting industry including experience counseling students or attorneys navigating career decisions
Experience developing a strong network of contacts in the legal community
Experience preparing and delivering presentations
Experience with recruiting membership or project management software
Active engagement in professional organizations that seek to improve legal education and/or the legal profession such as discipline-specific organizations and bar associations
Essential Functions
- Develop programming that facilitates students ability both to identity the career goals most consistent with their interests and talents and to achieve those goals
- Advise students and alumni on career and professional development issues including practice area and practice setting exploration interview assistance resume and cover letter review and networking guidance
- Develop Initiatives to support faculty advisors in their provision of career planning counseling to students
- Plan and implement an innovative marketing strategy to develop and expand recruitment opportunities student and alumni have with legal employers
- Oversee on-campus and virtual interview opportunities for students and alumni
- Develop and maintain relationships with potential employers
- Select train and supervise student employees
- Oversee compliance with ABA standards related to career development and employment outcomes and manage the law schools reporting of employment outcomes data to the ABA
- Generate employment-related data for periodic reporting to law school surveying organizations such as NALP US News and Princeton Review
- Represent the Career Development Office externally including presentations to employers legal professional organizations and other constituents
- Travel to attend national and regional meetings and workshops to stay updated on issues related to law school career services
