Groundskeeper

JOB TITLE: GROUNDSKEEPERDEPARTMENT: FACILITIES & GROUNDS

SALARY RANGE: $18.75 PER HOUR FLSA: NON-EXEMPT

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Operations Supervisor

SCHEDULE DETAILS: Full-time (subject to emergency call-in)/12 month position/PEERS

Position Summary

The Groundskeeper is responsible for the care of the lawns trees shrubs and flowers. Other major responsibilities include treating and removing the ice and snow on sidewalks entrances steps and parking lots as well as the care and maintenance of equipment to carry out these tasks and all other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Duties

• Mow and trim lawns in assigned areas.
• Lawn maintenance such as reseeding and weed control in assigned areas.
• Apply chemical feeding and pest control.
• Perform landscaping duties.
• Remove ice and snow from walk ways steps and parking areas.
• Keeps campus area building entries parking lots and lawns free of trash and debris.
• Perform bending squatting climbing twisting kneeling and reaching both to ground and overhead on a daily basis.
• Report and correct safety hazards.
• Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
• Comply with college policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned including attending college functions including serving on committees and attending community events.

Non-Essential Job Duties

• Provide routine care and maintenance for mowing equipment trimmers saws and hand tools.
• Properly dispose of hazardous chemicals or waste.
• Properly store and inventory supplies with in assigned areas and notifies supervisor of deficiencies.
• Develop procedures for inventory control notes discrepancies and turn in all packing slips.
• Attend employee in-service programs to improve work performance.

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to push and pull up to 150 lbs.
• Valid drivers license.
• Ability to document and maintain appropriate records logs and reports.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• Two years of experience as a groundskeeper.
• National Career Readiness Certificate.
• Experience with Colleague.
• Experience working within a collegiate setting.

Environment:Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. Requires extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing; may require adjustment of schedule to include some evening and/or weekends; may encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during travel.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to lift carry push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.

Performs landscaping duties as assigned including removal and replacement of landscaping plants trees mulch and blocks.

Walking to apply chemical feed and pest control substances to lawns trees shrubs and outside of facilities.

Environmental Conditions

Environmental conditions noted include the employees working in locations that include Outdoors Ground Vehicle and Confined Space. Employees in these locations need to work under Extreme Cold Extreme Heat and Extreme Humidity. Exposures noted include High Noise Dust Fumes Smoke Vibration Slippery Surfaces and Moving Machinery.
