Part-Time Art History Faculty

American International University (AIU) is seeking a part-time faculty member in Art History for the School of Architecture and Design. This role is ideal for a dynamic educator who is passionate about teaching mentoring and engaging students in the exploration of art history within a supportive academic environment.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in art history helping students develop creative inquiry critical thinking and visual analysis skills. Through active and engaging instruction the faculty member will guide students in examining historical and contemporary expressive practices artifacts and other forms of cultural production.
We welcome candidates who can bring diverse perspectives to our curriculum foster inclusive learning and connect art history to the broader context of design and culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned undergraduate courses in art history aligned with the candidates area of expertise (e.g. ancient medieval early modern modern or contemporary).
- Develop engaging lesson plans and course materials that encourage critical and creative thinking.
- Incorporate relevant professional trends examples and technologies into the classroom.
- Provide constructive feedback and academic support to students.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives such as student exhibitions or events as time and schedule allow.
Qualifications:
- Education: PhD in Art History preferred; Masters degree in Art History or related field required.
- Experience: Prior university teaching experience is required; demonstrated excellence in teaching within the art history discipline.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of art history and design culture; effective oral and written communication skills in English; ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
